Surely not the first, but looking to do something to get the SF lead on the table in numbers that matter. Hints, ideas, etc. sought |

You could probably get a lot of the way there just by changing the names of stuff, adding some jump packs and so on. |
Saber6 | 20 Mar 2016 6:21 p.m. PST |
Yeah. Of course I could just use 5Core Company Command <grin> |

Critical Mass Games' sci fi rules are similar to FOW. |

I would just "proxy" and then add some specific rules. So… The Altarian Mediuam Blaster Tank with a pulse gun (is really just a Panzer IV F) The Jenuvian Assault Infantry (are really just Cossacks). Then add in your special rules such as: - Jump Troopers: May use a special "jet pack" move to move up to 16" igonoring all terrain. May do so twice per game (limited fuel).
- Pandorian Bug Troopers are in command if they have LOS to their leader. If out of LOS roll to see how they react: 1 Rout (remove) 2-3 Move full toward nearest enemy 4-5 Move full in random direction 6 Go to ground
- GeneSuckers move by teleport. They may move to any spot on the table, so long as: not within 4" of an enemy team nor within 6" of any ion-cannon armed stands (ion cannons scramble their atoms).
Etc….. |

The key question for me is how to deal with infantry Armor; from flack jackets to Terminator type armor. I thought of a requiring a firepower roll with modifiers based on the armor. |

There is a gaming group in South Maryland US that made a respectable mod for SF Flames of War, inc a DIY army list builder. Can't remember the club name or the links to the lists however! |

Hammer's Slammers is a good company size game BTW, and the setting allows for a broad range of today's 15mm sci fi kit. |

Dealing with infantry armor can be dealt with in a couple ways. 1) If all troops for the most part are similarly armed and armored, it washes out and you use the rules as is (though armor might affect what you jusdge a unit's save roll to be). 2) Simply adjust ALL saving throw accordingly. So Power Armor saves on 3+, unarmored 5+ or whatever. 3) Treat ALL stands as armor. So unarmored infantry get an armor rating of 0. Give all weapons an AT and Firepower rating. I would also add a quick kill rule – if the Firepower exceeds (armor +6) by a certain amount it's an automatic kill. That way you don't waste a lot of time making firepower rolls when a 90mm shell hits an apeman. |

But there already is infantry armor in FoW. Check out the Engineer-Sappers in late war. The armor only works during the assault phase, but you could add a rule that protects against lower firepower weapons, like schurzen does. |

Engineer sappers get a 6+ save in the assault phase, I think both against Defensive Fire and against Close Combat hits. Been a long time since I looked at their rules. 6+ doesn't sound like much until you realize that NOBODY gets a save in close combat. Hits = kills on infantry. Personally, I'd adopt a lot of the Vietnam rules. Off-table artillery with HUGE beaten zones, helicoters that are very difficult to shoot down with MGs, etc. Add some personal armor rules and go to town. |

Could you adopt rules from Team Yankee? Not sure how similar that are to FOW. |

If it's 40K-ish, maybe you could use the WWI stuff? ;->= Doug |
FincasKhalmoril | 28 Mar 2016 1:37 p.m. PST |
Well, you got me interested. Maybe 15mm WH40k might be a better option using the FoW-rules! |

If you aren't going to go with a customised variant of FoW, I would then highly recommend Hammer's Slammers: The Crucible. |
Louie N | 29 Mar 2016 9:41 p.m. PST |
Does anyone carry the Crucible rules in the USA? Thanks |
McWong73 | 30 Mar 2016 1:43 a.m. PST |
Recreational Conflict carries them recreationalconflict.com They also carry the Ainsty Castings range of vehicles, though the game supports a very wide range of manufacturers. The books are a wargamers wet dream, and the game is solid fun, one of my favorites. |

I've used FOW for huge sci fi games, I've been trying Hammers Slammers with the Rules for larger battles. My favorite however was using "Tank Wreck" rules with some modifications. At Cold Wars last years we played a 6mm Scifi battle with over 300 tanks and 100 infantry bases. Played in less than 4 hours. |

A friend on mine created a Flames of War conversion for 40k Epic models. It was pretty fun |

Talking with my son (basically my game group) we are looking at a 40kish feel. I may tweak some StarGuard or Striker in too. |
