Hello everyone. My brother bought some 1/2400 scale ships to begin our naval war-game venture. My dad is interested and is looking for a war game set that is easy to learn, easy to play as my brother wants aircraft involved for scouting, booming and attacking other aircraft. Are there ANY rues that best fit this bill? |

Good old General Quarters or if you want to get even simpler get an Avalanche Press Second World War at Sea game like Bomb Alley…with those games you get very nice strategic maps and counters you could use for campaigns. |

I like GQ 1, Axis and Allies War at Sea, or Battlestations Battlestations. Any should fit the bill. |

Second vote for Battlestation Battlestation. Written for WW2, easy and fastplay with rules for aircraft and submarine warfare as well. Did a battle with almost 50 ships involving 3 players in 3 1/2 hours a month ago. link |

Grand Fleets 3 by Majestic 12 games or Naval Thunder by Steel Dreadnought games |

I like GQ1 and GQ2, if you can find them. |

OLD GQ I and II will work well and generally fairly available. GQ III changed just enough to make the game a little more difficult. |

Wow. I have a good bit of references and votes for General Quarters. I never heard of Battlestations Battlestations. Naval Thunder I have heard of. What of this Micronauts? |

Micronauts is not too complicated. However, it is strictly a tactical game. You mentioned that you wanted scouting. Well, you won't find scouting at this scale. The game assumes an air strike has already reached a task force, for example. |

Battle stations! Battle stations! if you're thinking of the Pacific or Med fleet size battles or GQ if you're going for smaller engagements (eg the Arctic theatre or actions in the English Channel). Me and the lad use and like both. GQ has a very elegant mini campaign system, whereas BB! has a ground scale that allows for a squadrons to be on the table but out of sight from each other. Although BB! is designed for 1:2400 the scale compression works best with 1:6000 (1" = 1000 yards against GQ's 4" = 1000 yards) Good luck and have fun! Nick |
