Awright, you scurvy scavengers and salacious scalawags, what followed you home from Cold Wars?
I picked up the supplement to Road Rage by Stan Johansen miniatures, some Blue Moon armed ship's captain and crew, 5 small resin 1/2" Cthulhoid statues, 9 sprues of Perry Middle Eastern/medieval/??? figures (all for $5 USD), a 7 Deadly Sins/7 Cardinal Virtues die for our new bishop--just in case they go blank on a sermon topic), a small boxed dice game that involves elves and vampires that I bought because the Flea Marketeer's sales pitch and patter were entertaining, a few other snips and snots here and there. I also encountered _Tree Girl_ from whom I purchased 3 small trees and 2 ziplock baggies of cookies--one Oatmeal raisin and the other chocolate chip. I gave half of each bag to Mrs. Carp, and used the remainder as bribes to my games' referees to make sure I got the best dice and good rolls.

How was your pillaging????
What's in your loot bag????

Couldn't make it but I sent my minions.
All I really "needed" were Old Glory SYW Prussian Dragoons, to serve as mounted jaegers, and a pack of OG AWI African American soldiers. I have been sadly lacking them for years, but now with my TSATF AWI project, they will be perfect.

Had I gone, the damage to my wallet would have naturally been exponentially greater.

Got a free Reaper Fig of Ape-X from buddy at Wally's (Thanks Steve) and a free beer from another… (Thanks George) so it was a good haul… small but good.

I picked up some Ainsty goodies from Rec Conflict, Empress LAV, Humvee and the Seal Team from Age of Glory, some Taliban and Marines from Eureka, and various supplies.

Wally Basement score was a Humvee toy for $3 USD---it is exactly the same size as the much more expensive one from Empress. Close second was a 1/48 Apache diecast for $10 USD!

I had a fun time!

I also got two bags of cookies from tree girl. Good cookies! Found a copy of the old Koeing Kreig in the flea market and some old Panzertroops figures.

Copied from my post to the Tekumel facebook group, so it might have obscure references.

Shopping wise, I went over my budget, ouch. I bought a spare copy of the Adventures on Tekumel books, the publisher of them vends at the con, and he's selling his warehouse stock of them, $10 USD a piece for mint copies, including the Bestiary. I got a whole set, plus a shrink-wrapped box set, for $100. USD
Bought two old Heroscape sets, the ashigaru (which repainted will be Mu'ug spearmen, and a set I didn't know about – sasauatches and rock golems. Since they're no longer made they're expensive, $80 USD for the two.
Then bought three new X-wing ships – the Ghost, the Inquisitor's Tie Fighter, and some other random ship – another $77 USD spent.
In the flea market on Friday I found a set of nicely painted ancient Egyptians, 30 figures for $100. USD They will be placed on sabot bases for my Tekumel game at Historicon.
Then on Sunday in the flea market I found a set of 31 old Heartbreaker figures, the ones with two-handed axes and dragon helmets. Nicely painted, but not as good as the Egyptians. They were $50 USD for the set. Also destined for Historicon.
I also bought a resin wickerman figure from a vendor, but don't recall who. It's resin, about 8" tall, and has a chest cavity to hold a 28mm figure. I'm really tempted to paint it and use it as the army command stand, can you imagine Kettukal towering over the battlefield in a 80' tall wicker statue? Another $50. USD

So that was my weekend, all in all, other then overspending my budget, it was a fun weekend.

Bought way too much.
Over my limit and then some.
Too much to list.

Couldn't resist the Perry Agincourt sets.

Thought I'd get "just a bag or two" of terrain goodies from Scenic Express… LOL, didn't work out that way, but that's OK. Cons are like Congress, if you're not going over-budget, you're not doing it right. The owner said he probably wouldn't make it to Historicon (I think due to other commitments); but plans to be a regular at Cold Wars/Fall-In!

I think the cook was giving everyone about a pound of "Hall-Pig". I had to take half of it home… yum! :)
When/if HMGS leaves the Host, I think that's a little something everyone will miss. :(

Another wonderful cold wars. G o t a ton of fencing from Doug at Battlefield Terrain Concepts. Always a pleasure visiting with him. Noticed he welcomes each customer, often by name and thanks us for buying from him. He was so nice I doubled the number of fences. Thank you Doug! Because of this I will always buy something from his stand no matter.

In the flee market area friday I got a ton of nice fields. Did not learn the man's name but again he was excellent fellow who made a great product at a reasonable price. Pleasure doing business with him.

Jumped all over The Flame and the Sword Cossacks. Found some Star Wars stuff and some space port terrain. Outstanding Con for me.

Not sure if by Flame and Sword you maybe meant By Fire and Sword.

By Fire and Sword has been for me one of the more refreshing and exciting new additions to the hobby in sometime. Talk about hitting a sweet spot of a new period I knew nothing about and that for most Americans is totally new territory, extremely colorful, passionately and competently produced and marketed, and a great rules and figures line to boot. Oh, and with regular additions too. I have bought most of what they have been putting out and I'm trying to assemble many armies now. I was glad to see they had a new book out at the show!

My most exciting pick up in the dealer hall at the show has to be the two volume monster sized compendium on the Great Northern War sold by OMM, and a related board wargame Fields of Battle vol 1 by the same publishers that covers 8 battles of the GNW. The two volume set has to be the most beautifully produced, detailed, and tantalizing reference work I've seen in a long, long time. All historical details, articles, and related content, this is not a rule book set but a massive work of military history. At 600+ pages and $125 USD price tag though the set is not for the faint hearted but WELL worth the entry fee.

I didn't get a lot in the flea market this year, but of the things I found one of my favorites is an obscure reference book for $2 USD on the campaigns and uniforms of the 1864 Schleswig-Holstein War that I had never seen before. I collect works on this war and am always excited when I find something I never knew existed! Got almost no actual miniatures in the flea market save for some outstandingly painted W40k Epic scale Titans which I am very happy with.

All the boxes of WoTR that Perry has put out and a bunch of Frostrave stuff…Ice mat from Cigar Box…

Rotundo21 Mar 2016 9:59 a.m. PST

Yes! Pipes, that was it! Very neat. I also know nothing of the history during this period.

Cold Steel21 Mar 2016 5:54 p.m. PST

I didn't have a lot of time at the con since the moving truck delivered Saturday morning. Just slipped in a couple of times between unpacking boxes. I picked up some ESM 28 mm SYW, a copy of Et Sans Resultant! (not impressed at first reading), and some 28mm SYW casualties and 10 mm moderns in the flea market.
