Played two battles recently of the same factions, Wood Elves versus Beastmen, with two different rule sets. SoBH: link Savage Worlds Showdown: link Beast |

Nice write ups. We used to play Showdown quite a bit back in the day using LOTR figs. Had a blast with it. Played it so much that we burned out on it. I think we should probably revisit it. |

Thanks. I really like the look of the LoTR minis. I'll employ some soon that I got for about a dollar a piece on eBay, painted and all! |

Regarding your Song of Blades and Heroes evaluation, your last comment about needing a more balanced force was spot on. Certainly, all shooters versus all fighters will fail. In fact, the rule book explains that shooters are purposely designed to be secondary. True, you couldn't double and kill a beastman with one shooter, but if you knock them down a fighter can charge in and kill them much more easily and with less risk to itself. I can't find it in SoBH, but in Fightin' Fungi shooting is lethal against knocked down models too. There is also the aimed shot rule which is often useful. So, combined arms! |

Yes, you are right. And Andrea (the Song of Blades creator, who is very responsive to customer inquiries) is upfront about how missile attacks are at a disadvantage in the game – steel will carry the day. Both games have their appeal. SoBH has a really cool activation mechanic, Savage Worlds has a lot more detail if you want it. Both are enjoyable, and you are right that combined arms provide a surer path to victory in either system. |

Thanks also for pointing me to Savage Worlds Showdown; I'd not heard of it. It looks like fun! |

Yes shooting a downed foe is Lethal in Revised SOBH too. My bad for not spelling it out (the rules say that ranged combat has the same effects as melee, but I agree it needed to be said) |
