Whilst rummaging around my files looking for info on a related topic, I came across this article. It contains a photo of a rather lapidated eagle and some illustrations. If you can read French, then you will be able to read the contents. It is from No.78-79 of the French Tradition magazine.

Oddly the magazine says the eagle itself is Second Empire….

Certainly many were "captured" in mass surrenders by Napoleon III's armies, but I would be hard put to tell from this picture. It is looking to its left and is not crowned…..which would do for Boney I.
