They should have preserved more frigates from the war of 1812 I wish they had as well but there simply weren't many. President, Essex and Chesapeake were taken during the war. Congress was scrapped in the 1830s as was Constellation (the Constellation in Baltimore is a Sloop of War not the original Frigate) and Macedonian and United States was burnt when Gosport was burnt to keep her from falling into the hands of the Confederates. |

USS United States was supposed to be burnt, but was actually commissioned as the CSS United States as a floating battery. She was later scuttled but Union forces raised her and kept her till the end of the war. |

Thanks for posting jowady. My first visit to the Constitution was about 60 years (Yikes!) ago my last 5 years ago. Always worth the trip. |

I saw her in drydock while in Boston last weekend. She deserves to be authentically dressed and refitted….free of budget restraints. Forever may she float..forever may she sail! |

It might be of interest to some to know that the granite block drydock in which she currently sits is itself about 200 years old. I've been all over her, from keel to weather deck. A beautiful ship and impeccably maintained by the USN. B |

Several years ago, I was able to take my cub scouts aboard or an overnite stay. Because one of my leaders had served with the then CO, we got the admiral's tour and saw every inch of her. Then spent the night on the berthing deck (not recomended for those over 5 feet tall, ouch) |

Constitution like Victory are still commissioned ships, HMS Victory there has been always friction between the Navy and the the Victory's historical museum. They rarely agree on how they should proceed with the future of this Great Ships. |
