I have just received my copy of the latest title from Histoire & Collections, namely:
Officers and Soldiers of French Artillery and the Gribeauval System 1786-1815 by Ludovic Letrun.

This is the 2nd volume in a three volume series and is equally as good as the first volume. Volume 1 concentrated on The Foot Artillery while Volume 2 covers The Horse Artillery and the Artillery Train.

As usual, the latest offering in the series contains great images, including uniforms, guns, flags and equipment, all in colour. Among the material and images offered, I found the mobile artillery Wurst very interesting. It displays six gunners sitting on the Wurst caisson and three mounted on the horses pulling it (pages 40-41). Also interesting are the images of 24pdr howitzers (page 51), with the text stating that the gun was unsuitable for campaigning in hilly country. It was also nice to see so much offered covering the Artillery train. Overall, an excellent little title for less than £10.00 GBP

Even more good news (except for the wallet and growing
to-get lists) is that Volume 3 is due out at the end of March.

I have found all the volumes in this series excellent. I am very much looking forward to the 3rd artillery volume and hope one day they will do a volume on line and light infantry.

Yes, great books and brilliant the way they keep the prices so low. Just a shame other publishers appear unable to do the same. But never mind, the more Napoleonic titles for us the merrier.

Thanks very much for the heads up Gazzola. I just ordered it and since it comes out after Easter, I can get it.

I gave up Amazon and books for Lent which made my wife happy… ;-)

It is down as available via Amazon UK on the 31st March. I will certainly be buying a copy to complete the excellent series.

My copy of Officers and Soldiers of French Artillery and the Gribeauval System 1786-1815, Volume 3, has just arrived. It is well recommended and completes the three part series perfectly.

It contains details and images on pontoneers, pontoons and trestle bridging equipment and wagons, siege guns and mortars, regimental artillery and more. It was interesting to see the unusual uniforms of the Coastal Gunners 1794-1803, in terms of colours, who are depicted wearing dark blue jackets over sea green waist coats and trousers (see Lilian's post above).

Overall, a great addition to anyone's collection and especially those interested in the artillery side of the French army.

I'm still waiting for my copy…Lent is over!
