On the link there are more photos, including one about five down the list, of the Celts riding across a river – the flow of water in that photo is stunning – truly stunning.

It makes me proud of the 1/72 community when geniuses work such wonders.

Well since you ask…what immediately struck me was the obvious use of daylight and limited depth of focus. As a novice I have tended to wait for the sunniest days and that simply does not work. Early am or late pm on a bright day is ideal.


I use the narrowest apertures with artificial lighting and 2-3 second exposures, to get maximal depth. In practice, this shows how the reverse can be so effective.

The accompanying text is well worth a read, plus glad to see Armand featuring once more

I totally agree it looks like a film set. The riders crossing the stream is incredible….that flowing water. I did but a bottle of the special effects water stuff, but never had the courage yet. Now, if I do the early mameluke conversions

I love the way the legionaries at the back of the formation are standing chatting. I wonder if they might not be a bit more engaged with the possibility of missiles from their front.
