BF has added airmobile "Afghan" elite infantry to TY. Now I'm tempted to add 6 more Hinds to the 6 I already have. Look to the skies! Soviet air assault troops are coming to Team Yankee. The desantniki of the Soviet VDV airborne forces in the Afgantsy Air Assault Battalion are tough veterans of the Soviet-Afghan War. They have learned their trade in bitter fighting against the mujahideen rebels in the mountains of the Hindu Kush. Now back in Europe, they are ready to show the NATO troops the awesome power of a Soviet air assault.
AT-4 Anti-Tank Teams:
The desantniki are tough afgantsy veterans. They've learned their trade fighting the mujahideen rebels in the mountains of the Hindu Kush. Now back in Europe and equipped with the powerful AT-4 Spigot antitank missile that they call the Fagot ('Bassoon'), they have little to fear from tanks or aircraft. In assaults, their AGS-17 Plamya ('Flame') automatic grenade-launchers give them an unbeatable edge in firepower.

All well and good, but in GSFG the Hip was the main troop carrying helicopter. Tally Ho! |

IIRC the Hind was used in a limited role in Afghanistan for SF deployment but mostly the Mi-Mil 8 and occasionally bigger choppers……. |

One of the biggest concerns for the Quartermaster school, when I worked with them on THREAT situations was the incursion of small squad to platoon sized Soviet forces being placed in the rear area by either helicopter or parachute. It was more than simple security as we found out during exercises. Since I am working on a booklet on those situations for a Cold War, I will not go into any further detail as to remedies and other concerns. |

My take is that its a list for after the bridgehead, with Hinds as support. With maybe a group for SF insertion as well, the VDV already have a whole lot of 2+'s for morale tests. I'm doing TY in 6mm and I'm pretty psyched to see the list although I haven't seen the points prices yet. This will give me a chance to use my many many GHQ AGS's, the first unit I painted when TY was announced. I think I know a way to convert their AT-16's to AT-4's and luckily 6mm is a forgiving scale if your requirements for accuracy are reasonable. I've got 2 Hip's already and I was thinking of getting 2 more as Hind proxy Mi-8T's hanging around for pocket support. |

Hinds look cool on the gaming table. They could drop all sort of infiltration teams but for a large scale airborne assault, it'd be regular transport choppers. |

Shika, also coming up are the Halo and Hook by H&R in 6mm, Tally Ho!

Yea, apparently Hinds suck at hovering, so are not as good as some others at inserting troops, especially in hot weather environments. |

Arrgghh! Still disappoints me to see motor rifles painted up as VDV… Like painting Grenadiers up to be FJ… |
