Hello, I am posting this in the Canadian boards because it is very climate specific. I live in the GTA and I've always stored my miniatures in the basement or closet, however, I was wondering if people have stored them in their garages (non temperature controlled, not attached to the home) and had any issues. Or if this is something I should categorically stay away from doing due to the summer humidity and winter frost.

I live in southern Arizona, and all my gaming minis are stored outside in my garage…which connected to my house. But…it is not temperature control, just the two standard vents. The minis (metal) and all my terrain and houses are all outside. I keep them in storage tubs. Yeah it does get hot out there, and even a few days of what they call here a hard freeze, an no issues.

A few measure I took to help with the heat is I insulated the metal garage door and laid rubber tile-like pieces on the cement floor.

The only issues I have is I use a lot of "hot glue" in the building of my shelves in my storage tubs, and that very rarely comes undone…not enough for me to change mediums.

With it very dry here, I have no problems. Cannot speak about any humid issues if any.

Hope this helps.

P.

I am moving my minis from non climate controlled environment to a new mancave with AC. The minis are fine but paper products have suffered.

I live in northeast Pennsylvania. For 10 years, from 1986-1996, I did no gaming, and all my figures were stored in an uninsulated attic. During that time, we had some of the coldest winters on record, with one month averaging -0F every day, and a day or two of -24F.
In 1996 I took them all down and resumed gaming. They were all in fine shape.
Btw, the summers were pretty hot too.

Any doing that in the Uk? And gaming in garages, presumably two spaces ones? As I might go on for that sooner or later., as one option.

I keep all my gaming stuff (plastic and metal minis, terrain, paints, etc.)in my garage in Central Florida all year round, no problems yet.

Yup being storing them fine in my garage for 15 years in London no problems. No sign of lead rot or brittle plastics, all my mags and papers are fine. Note, it is brick and converted but it has no A/c. It does have a tiled floor and plasterboard/studwork over the brick walls. Roof is felted so quite dry. Half the stuff is in its "loft" so even more exposed to weather than the items actually stored in the garage room.

I reckon biggest danger to that stuff is any rodents finding their way in and deciding to chew their way through my collection!!!

Mine have been in my garage for 41 years now. I've never heard them complain nor have I seen any signs that this is a detrimental environment for them.

Depending on basing, temperature is not liable to be the main issue. Damp is more likely to be a problem.

I have a finished room in my basement which my wife designed and had built for my hobby 30 years ago with heat, AC and dehumidifiers. It has a separate painting table in one corner with bookshelves for references and a storage cabinet and drawers for storage of painted figures. I live in New England where humidity can be a problem, but to date have had no issues.

I've put some of mine in the garage, which is connected to the basement of my 4 family apartment. SW Ohio weather can be just as unpredictable, especially lately.

How did the bases stand up to cold storage? That would be my biggest concern. Any warping or such?

Some of my collection is in my out building which wasn't heated in a few years. But it does have heavy insulation and dropped to just below freezing only a little. Haven't noticed any changes.

It's more about moisture. You get moisture and cold/hot then it's a problem. As long as it's dry, I've never had a problem.

JC frog@ used my garage in the UK which is separate from the house raised the floor (just to avert potential flooding), clad the walls and ceiling for insulation and put in a convector heater (with frost protection)and the what was almost a decade ago never had a problem (apart from the wife insisting I have the tumble dryer in there)

Ok, reassuring prospects. Have to own the place though. T'will happen.
