I've just finished another large force for Hammer's Slammers:The Crucible and thought I'd put up a few photos. My Alaudae Legion is made up of three eight element detachments, 21 vehicles and three infantry elements in total all ready for action at the weekend. More photos and a bit more of a write-up on the blog: wp.me/p26BWy-1Eo

They really do look amazing and im not just saying that, your camera work makes them pop even more these pics should be in a 15mm rule book somewhere… |

Agreed – great minis and photos that should be published |

Outstanding. Out of interest, do you thin the matt varnish when airbrushing? |
Tony Francis | 16 Mar 2016 6:36 a.m. PST |
@McWong – yes, but not much, something like 4:1 varnish:thinner. Too much and it tends not to dry properly and stays shiny (which defeats the purpose!). I have an inexpensive but very forgiving airbrush . |

Agree with all above, they look great! |

Just realized how you're denoting command units, very clever! |

Very Nice !!!! |

Great but not 6mm. I am a 3/6mm guy. Too much invested in other scales to start 15mm |

Allen57, I'm also a 6mm sci-fi (and ancients, and napoleonics) guy. IMO, 6mm is the way to go for bigger battles. As for the force pictured, all of the hulls and turrets shown are also available from Brigade Models in 6mm through the EuroFed and Mercs lines. Some of the turrets would have to be swapped between vehicles to get an exact replica of the force, but it IS possible! Brigade Models is pretty amazing that way, with almost complete coverage of their lines in 6mm and 15mm. |

I cant seem to find those infantry on the Brigade site can anyone point them out for me? |

@jsans73 – they're our PacFed Armoured Infantry: link |

Tony those are great…. What airbrush do you use….I'm convinced I need one now? |

I love Brigades stuff. They can do no wrong in my eyes. They get a good chunk of my gaming budget. |
darebear | 17 Mar 2016 1:19 p.m. PST |
Very nice. Can you tell us which paints you used? |
Tony Francis | 18 Mar 2016 2:39 a.m. PST |
@Twoball – it's just an inexpensive one I picked up on eBay – just like this one auction @darebear – mostly Tamiya and Citadel (if you follow the link to the blog it's all detailed there). I like Tamiya paints for their range of military colours and they airbrush nicely. Citadel paints probably aren't quite as nice as Vallejo, but (and this is very important) if I run out of a colour, I can pop down to Games Workshop and pick up a new pot in half-an-hour. If I want to use Vallejo colours, I have to get them by post which takes several days. |

Tony and I game them a spin on Saturday at my new Wargames Cabin in The Woods. They ran into some very tough nuts: late Slammers (one detachment) and two of the New Ukrainians. It was an interesting result: at the end we neither of us had very much left and were both teetering on the edge of morale checks. Tony suggested that the Slammers probably had it just on account of still having one functional blower tank left but it was a very close run thing. Tony has done a lovely job with those Alaudae, both in the painting and, of course, the design work (the heaviest tanks needed a new hull). I'll post some pics when I have them off of my camera. Interestingly enough, the subject of 1/300th came up in the post game debrief and, of course, Brigade do an excellent job of reproducing everything they do in both scales. I mentioned that I'd done a lot of the play testing for the rules in 6mm and if I were to use them again I'd use either the Imperial Option (swap measurements into inches rather than cm's) or just using the 15mm/1/100th sheets. John T PS: Tony did some of the worst dice rolling I have ever seen! |

I've just posted a new topic on the bug infested boards!
See here TMP link for some stuff on Tony's Alaudae, Patrick Sexton's Chicago group and some other completely unrelated stuff… John T |

That's a very nice photo, John – just like real-life, wargames action shots are usually better than anything that you try to do when posing models. |
