I've got a lot of Beja that I need to paint. In order to have any chance of doing this within the next few years I needed to find a way in which I can skimp on my usual painting method and start churning them out. I pretty much decided to go for a base coat, a wash and two highlights, one of which is applied very sparingly; this is a vast improvement in terms of speed when compared to my usual multi layering method! I think that in total there were not more than about four hours spent painting these up. You can read about my desperation to get them painted, the method employed as well as seeing many more pics on my Just Add Water blog here: link Here's a few tasters:

When I do my Zulu I do a three phase paintjob. Dark brown (GW Rhinox Hide) Highlight with 50/50 Rhinox hide/Doombull Brown Highlight with Doombull Browm Seems to work OK. |

As the laziest person here,I do a "one phase" paint job: dark brown dry brush over flat black primer. I've even sold some from time to time, so I guess they're OK. |

I think that I am even lazier. I spray undercoat black, spray brown then use AGRAX EARTHSHADE wash once all the details have been painted. This is for my Zulu Regiments and will do a better job on characters. |

The close-up of the figure holding his spear horizontally just above waist level looks quite threatening, in a sort of "This is what id would look like if one was attacking me" fashion. Grelber |

Darrell, I paint mine as wet-into-wet blends – you still get the subtle tonal range but it's a really quick way to work as you can't hang about. Three colours on the palette and away you go – black, dark brown and light brown. I paint as much of the rest as I can as wet-into-wet using two colours – brown and sand. The only thing that I don't think can be skimped is the clothing – it needs some of the creases and folds highlighting. I paint all mine over white undercoat but that's down to personal taste. |
