Where do you buy the majority of your historical books?

daler240D14 Mar 2016 7:02 a.m. PST

usually get them used online at Amazon from their third party sellers.

I don't buy a lot of books anymore. I'd have to say I get most of what I do buy at half Price Books now.

mad monkey 114 Mar 2016 7:27 a.m. PST

Amazon.

Frederick Supporting Member of TMP14 Mar 2016 7:33 a.m. PST

Amazon

Local library. Most libraries are in a network with dozens or hundreds of other facilities, providing access to a large amount of material. Books which are not checked out get culled, so be sure to save you favorites by reading them.

Waco Joe14 Mar 2016 7:49 a.m. PST

I'm in the same camp as 79thPA, Half Price Books.

Used from Amazon or Bookfinder.com

JimDuncanUK14 Mar 2016 8:17 a.m. PST

Sometimes Amazon, sometimes Caliver, sometimes Dave Ryan, sometimes secondhand at shows, sometimes gifts from others.

On Military Matters has a lot of titles not available from Amazon. Great service too.

Who asked this joker14 Mar 2016 9:25 a.m. PST

On Military Matters. Amazon. Caliver.

Fat Wally14 Mar 2016 9:25 a.m. PST

Amazon, used.

Martin Rapier14 Mar 2016 9:30 a.m. PST

Amazon or at wargames shows.

zippyfusenet14 Mar 2016 9:52 a.m. PST

In order by frequency:

Edward R. Hamilton Bookseller (Great discount book catalog. The best.)

Daedalus Books (Another discount catalog, much smaller than ERH. Quirky, often includes good music CDs. ERH CDs suck.)

On Military Matters (Sometimes he has a specialist title I can't pass up.)

Amazon (When I'm looking for a particular book.)

Museum gift shops (Wherever I go, I try to find a catalog for the museum and specialized titles on their main subject.)

Convention flea markets (I always say I'm not going to buy anything, and I always do.)

I buy a lot of books. I read a lot of books. It helps to get them cheap.

Disco Joe14 Mar 2016 9:59 a.m. PST

On Military Matters and Barnes and Noble. Also Casemate Publishing at the conventions.

Amazon, ebay, TMP, Barnes & Noble.

Rich Bliss14 Mar 2016 10:55 a.m. PST

iBooks and Amazon. Digital is always my first choice, now.

tigrifsgt14 Mar 2016 11:02 a.m. PST

Amazon and Half Price Books, Barnes and Noble if it's a really good deal.

Sir Walter Rlyeh14 Mar 2016 11:05 a.m. PST

Amazon Kindle is my new history source. My period of interest is the 13th Century so I read some obscure texts. They can be quite pricy so digital is a big cost savings. Now if I was interested in the War Between the States, books might be easier to find at the local shops.

coopman14 Mar 2016 11:35 a.m. PST
