We have been busy painting here at All the King's Men, specifically for our revised American Revolution line. My goal has been to show some of the possibilities of our Recruit Your Own Regiment menu, where you get to handpick what bodies and head sets you want to combine to form a figure set. That tool is on our AWI page, here: link
In this case I have combined our marching infantry bodies with "Uncocked Hat Heads #2" to create the 2nd Virginia infantry. The regiment defended its home state, and later fought at Brandywine, Paoli, Germantown, Monmouth Courthouse and Charleston.
These are 54mm metal figures. This very set runs $40 USD from us, UNpainted. I paint with base coats followed by washes, say a light gray base for a coat followed by a Midnight Blue wash… and done. That's it. There's no great mystery to painting 54s. We also offer the bases at ATKM: link Let us know what you think, or if you have any questions. I have been posting for years to Facebook and the ATKM mailing list about painted sets when I've finished them, and plan to start doing that here on TMP as well. I hope you like them. |

In a word.. Beautiful. Its that darn 'white' webbing that intimidates and irritates me. Trying to get that 'sharp' contrast between the white and the base color. |

Ken, AKA allthekingsmen, can you go a bit deeper into the "light gray base for a coat followed by a Midnight Blue wash" ? Am I correct you start basically with the "highlight" and work backward to the "shadows". How many coats of wash would you use and what type? is it thicker than what we normally consider a wash? Thanks, and beautiful figs bot the Va's and the Highlanders. Carl (AKA Karl) |
