Fred Adolphus, one of the great prolific researchers of all things Confederate, has a new article available. It is Part 1 of 3 parts and is entitled "CONFEDERATE DEPOT UNIFORMS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ALABAMA, MISSISSIPPI AND EAST LOUISIANA, 1864-1865 Part I: The Jackets of Major William J. Anderson's Depot, Columbus, Mississippi" I am always interested in new research, and Fred never disappoints. It might be a bit nerdish for some folks, but the article is, to my mind, a great read and worth the time spent to go through it. link As usual, if you have the time, peruse the rest of his site. Always fascinating insights and research to be found therein. V/R |

In Alabama, I am familiar with the clothing bundles issued to the various camps of Instruction found in the Talladega area. I read accounts about soldiers in the 30 & 31 Infantry regiments from the Randolph-Talladega counties. One raid from the Blu Mountain or now Anniston area travelled down the Central Plank road to Talladega. Caught the sentries not doing their duty and began burning uniforms and other personal equipment, cartridge belts and canteens. They retreated when quick reaction forces from Sylacauga/Ft Williams arrived. An later raid resulted in the battle of Munford, stagecoach, Station. |
