Judge Dredd, Cursed Earth? Steampunk, Sky pirates? VSF? Black powder fantasy, Elves with muskets? I have been looking at reviews of Pulp Alley and though I like the Pulp era, some other periods that I have wanted to play( but don't want to get seperate rule books for each of them or just don't like the rules that have been written for them). I want small tables, few minis and easy to use rules. Anybody use Pulp Alley for anything similar? TIA Andy |

Long time no see, Andy! We'll have to get together. Pulp Alley are my number one set of rules these days. I reckon they'd work perfectly across those genres. Love to give them a run with you. |

I also believe so. We're using Pulp Alley – basically the game engine – for Gladiators fighting, Wild West (some even against Genestealers), WW2 small actions, and Gang Wars set in modern World, so…. The game engine is very good, and with some care useful for lot of genres. |

Simple answer, yes. Its all in the scenario a good clever scenario with cool plot points a bunch of friends who enjoy a roll-playerish style of gaming, Beer/soda, Pretzels/chips = enjoyment for all. PA is very robust across the genres |

In the Pulp Leagues supplement, it has a few optional rules for different genres: Pulp Adventures, Pulp Fantasy (inc. simple Armour), Pulp SciFi, Pulp War, Pulp Western, Pulp Horror (inc. monster leagues), Pulp Lost World, & Pulp Swashbuckling (inc. blackpowder wpns). Basically these add 1 or 2 rules that tweak the setting, so the game plays/feels a little different. Also some minor suggestions for other settings as well (zombies, road warriors, supers, etc). Plus rules on Kits, which allow characters to be armed with weapon that feel more specific (rather then just the somewhat generic Shoot or Fight traits). Definitely worth picking up, the pdf version is ~ $10. USD |

Pulp Alley is a great game which can be adapted to almost any setting, and has really good mechanics. BUT, I also play Frostgrave and Shadows of Brimstone because it's just so much easier to maintain creative consistency for those specific worlds: I don't have to do all the creative ditch-digging, and there's lots of enthusiasts around for them. {Though not enough enthusiasts to permit me to find any pickup games.) In short, if you have a vision you want to actualize, Pulp Alley is a good way to go. But if you want to buy into someone else's vision, maybe there's someones' game that would work for you. |

"I want small tables, few minis and easy to use rules" Pulp Alley has rules that allow you to manipulate the size of your warband from as many as a dozen characters down to one god-like superhero. You can do Dynamic Duos and Fantastic Fours, Cult Leaders and minions, Sheriffs and their posses, and so forth ad infinitum. The rules are very generic, and skill with weapons is the important thing, so it doesn't matter if your campaign is in Black Powder, Bow & Arrow, or Lasers & Plasma guns. Just pick your setting and apply the rules accordingly: the same rule used for a hand grenade in one setting becomes a wizard's fireball in another. |

Short answer: YES. Long answer: The rules are really solid and there aren't "point costs" for "specific weapons" or "armour". Your character have certain slots to buy abilities. Some people like to CHANGE the name of some abilities for specific characters or setting, and you may want to change the name of some of the Fortune Cards, but the effect they have in the game remains exactly the same across all listed genres. I highly reccomend it. PLUS if you want to check the engine before buying the complete rulebook (Hey, it's only $10.00 USD or so), there is a FREE STARTING SET you can download from their store. Hope that helps. |

Pulp Alley works extremely well for Judge Dredd or any character driven scenario. |

When Dad is talking about the "pulps", he's really talking about the stories in those magazines. And they covered a lot of genres, like Westerns, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, and much more. And Pulp Alley was written for all those high adventure genres. We mainly play in a 1930s type setting but other players are using it for all kinds of stuff. So if you want a fast moving game that feels like an adventure, then yes Pulp Alley will work. ;) -Mila Pulp Alley
