I want to make my French SYW army commander (Soubise) stand out.

Apsrt from other ideas, I thought I could include a flag on his stand. Is it at all appropriate to have a national flag? What other options for flags are there?

I'd suggest a white field (French Royal 'national' colour) with the arms of the De Rohan family.

As uniforms for general officers were not yet standard for some armies I place a Colonel's flag with the commander of major groupings (wings/divisions) and the CinC.

This helps when your allies have coats of similar colour.

Cheers,

Gentlemen: you, both, are marvellous.
Many thanks.

The flags, bearing Soubise's coat-of-arms are now carried by two ensigns, who share a circular base with a drummer & an officer. This base will follow the French C-I-C around the battlefield, making it impossible to ignore the Frenchman.
