Had a weird thing happen to me yesterday. I opened a paint pot I haven't used in a long time: Citadel's "Nauseating Blue". (That should tell you how long ago it was bought.) Everything was fine, (i.e. it was still liquid) so after some remixing and thinning, I applied it to a model.

This morning I noticed it dried glossy! Which is weird, considering it isn't a gloss paint. And now it looks really dumb because the layer of NB has since been highlighted, so now I have a glossy undercoat with matte highlights.

I think I need a new Nauseating Blue. That aside, has this ever happened to anyone before?

It sounds like the binder and pigment still are not mixed properly.

I had the same issue. Couldn't change it back. But, It looks sharp for chaos armour.

Would a brush on matt varnish help?

Try this tip. Works for me.

Had the same thing happen with a bottle of Vallejo black, put it aside and got a new one out to use instead.

Most of my old paints are GW, so they don't turn glossy. They turn to coloured stone instead.

Thanks to all. A spray of dullcote did the trick. But I'll be buying a new paint pot too.

Does sound like it hasn't mixed properly. I'm still using some of myoriginal citadel paints (coat d'arms) from the 80's (that had a holiday in my mum's barn for a number of years) and they are fine. Sadly the more recent GW paints don't have the same longevity.
