We got in another game of Team Yankee using 6mm miniatures the other night. The AAR is at:

Is that Kallistra hex terrain? Great job on your miniatures.

@bashytubits: yes, it's Kallistra Hexon terrain – I love the stuff! 😊

Great looking game.

Very nice , great terrain.

Looks great. What are you using for your infantry bases? I have some 1" square bases, but I think they'll be too big.

bishnak07 Mar 2016 11:53 a.m. PST

Infantry bases are 20x20mm MDF bases.

Bish,

How do the hexes really help the game play? Does it make easier on estimating distances?

If I read the bog correctly they don't have any place in play, they are just a convenient terrain system…

bishnak07 Mar 2016 6:06 p.m. PST

Yep, correct. I don't use the hexes for Team Yankee, but do for many other games.

Having said that, they *could* easily be used for TY ( like most games). They are 4" hexes, so you would simply divide all distances/ranges by four to give you the distance in hexes. You can also use the hex apexes or sides to determine facings with less ambiguity. Also if you want to go 'all in' with hexes, the majority terrain in each hex would determine the terrain type.

The other reason I like the Kallistra terrain is the modularity, durability and convenience of it. You can pretty much make anything with it and the hills etc stack inside each other (unlike other tile systems – eg GHQ Terrain Maker or GeoHex, which are both solid and made of polystyrene).
