Isn't it just easier to not type profanity in your posts to begin with rather than rely on the software to keep you from breaking forum policy? I would think so…. But what do I know? |

There was a poll a few weeks or months ago to remove the use of certain words from the Bleep-o-matic. It passed. I assumed they were proper anatomical words, but not swear words. At least that's how I read it. I don't remember a TMP Talk thread on it implementing it but there may have been. At no time was there any mention of those words not leading to detention. Just that they would not be bleeped. So….. Make of it what you will. |

Good heavens. I agree with Martin. Fetch my smelling salts. The safety net is no longer there. Act accordingly. |

Hush, you…. If you keep that up, we might actually end up liking each other at some point….god forbid! |

Previously it was possible to evade the BoM. Simply capitalize the word. You could also put it in a title. |

Yes, due to the poll, certain words are no longer automatically bleeped. |

Many people got the DH for trying to evade the filter by trying to be clever with misspelling and acronyms. That alone suggests that not getting bleeped is no guarantee that anything goes and you are safe. |

Announcement was made on October 29th of last year: TMP link |

I'm glad I read this as my copy of the Newspeak Dictionary is 3 or 4 days old. |

This will probably be an on going problem without a happy ending for some. Some posters use such language in all their every day conversations or to enhance their argument in a manly way. Those that don't they would regard as lesser. I try to use language here that I would use with those I might meet at a wargames show. martin |

the colloquial term for urine. Announcement was made on October 29th of last year: I would not consider that the colloquial term for urine is a "medically correct word"? |

Now there you go again. Trying to make TMP conform to definitions. |

I try to use language here that I would use with those I might meet at a wargames show My rule of thumb is if it is a word I would never say in front of my mother or include in an official document such as a report for work, it's not suitable for use here. I don't get how people cannot control themselves when it comes to posting profanity. Trust me, I get how hard it can be to do so in everyday speech. 20 years of working in prisons left me with a pretty foul mouth. But after an injury on the job five years ago I moved to administration rather than take a medical retirement. (and sadly a considerable pay cut) It's a much more professional environment, so I had to tone down my language in a big way. I took it as an opportunity to try to remove profanity from my vocabulary entirely. I do pretty good these days, but it still occasionally slips out in conversation. But when typing a post there is no "it just slipped out" excuse. When one types profanity in a forum post, it's not just a momentary slip of the tongue. It's a willful decision to misbehave. But that's just how I see it…. |

Martin, stop being so holier than thou. That wasn't my intention. I'm certainly sorry if you took my post that way. Prison guards (sic), many of whom across the pond at least delight in making inmates lives Bleeped texting miserable, should know that, surely? It sounds like you have been watching too many movies and TV shows. I hate to dispel illusions here, but "Orange is the New Black" is not a true to life depiction. ;-) People are taking advantage of the bleep-o-matic as a fun thing so that they can just enjoy and write comfortably. I guess I just can't wrap my head around how sprinkling your posts with profanity makes writing "comfortable". Ah well. I suppose it's different environments, values and upbringings. I was always taught that "Profanity is the effort of a feeble brain to express itself forcibly". Other's millage will clearly vary. So please, you always like to chime in on these sorts of things Deleted by Moderator Hyperbole. I don't always chime in on any subject here. In fact I'm a pretty infrequent poster. |

I have to say I find myself between two stools on this issue. |

Oh and Martin W was right there behaving the same way as he has here. If by that you mean "wondering why folks don't just refrain from posting profanity instead of relying on some buggy software to keep them acting decent" then I plead guilty… |
