These rules were written by Neil Thomas and published in Battlegames issue 23 as a very simple set of Horse-and-Musket rules. I have liked and used them for games ever since their publication and have finally got round to doing a very quick review here: link

Despite a couple of arguable bits (and which set doesn't have them?), they give a very quick and fun game which is extremely easy to pick up and play. I'd recommend them in particular to newcomers to wargaming or those who fancy a dabble.

Thanks for the post and looking forward to your further thoughts in due course.

It looks like I'll be stopping by the local game store to see if they have this issue!

I very much doubt it. That issue was published Sep/Oct 2010.

It is a few years old now. But you can buy the pdf for £1.75 GBP ($2.47?) from the Battlegames site payhip.com/b/0awc and print them out. There are only a couple of pages.

May I suggest you join the AMWGroup on yahoo groups – if you haven't already done so – where you will find SIPP variants in the Files section that may suit your purposes or provide a basis for tweaking.
There are also files devoted to Neil Thomas's other rules and discussion thereof that may be of interest too.

The issue can be had from Wargame Vault here in PDF. link

Thanks gents, especially Who asked this joker. I've bought PDFs from Wargames Vault in the past and will probably buy this issue from them.

I admit that I was foolishly hopeful about finding this back issue at our local historical game store, Great Hall Games. But they do have a good amount of different back issues, and I'll check this weekend.

Furthermore, a few weeks ago, the owner of Great Hall Games sold some of his vintage wargame rules for next to nothing. I picked up "Pas de Charge", "En Avant", "The British are Coming" (already sold to someone here on TMP who was seeking it), "To the Sound of the Guns", "Rocket's Red Glare", Lou Zocchi's "1944" and even more. So that's what gave me some hope about making another great find.

Update, March 5, 2016.

Yes, our local game store had some back issues. Issue 19 of BG is for sale, but not issue 23

Close, but not quite.

We use the Fire and Discipline series. First released in the 1980s. The small troop scale oh 1:10 to 1:20 depending on the era, makes the fielding of small units such as firing platoons easy.

@Arthur,

Thank you very much for reminding me (and I have amended the review to include a link to the yahoo group). There are some good modifications for SiP in there, although I still think I may have a go myself.
