The Seleucid herd musters for Raphia! These reinforcements were painted by mate Shaun McTague.
Many more photos are on my blog. link Best, Simon |

Herd of elephants? Of course I've heard of elephants. Nice! |

Thanks all (hi Mike!). I'm afraid I can't recall where the calf came from- I think eBay provided. |

Very well done, but a bunch of eles hurtling into battle is called a "Charge" I think :) |

The skin effect on elephants are great. Love massed elephants. These sculpts are the best. Is that one unit. |

Fantastic work. Brings to mind the South Italian plate thought to show a Pyrrhic elephant with calf. I imagine that was the inspiration?
[edit] … and now having read your blog I see that it was inspired by Pyrrhos, but the story of Beneventum rather than the plate. :) |

Thanks Colin! They will be three units (with five stands of supporting archers) that will constitute the main Seleucid elephant wing. There will be 2 elephants/4 stands on the other wing. Hi Harry, well, both! :-) The plate surely must surely be connected with the story. Thanks all. Best, Simon |

Did calfs accompany mothers in battle. Also still confused…How many models in single unit and how wide are those bases. |
BigRedBat | 03 Mar 2016 5:23 a.m. PST |
Hi Colin, Yes in at least one battle, Beneventum, I think that's the only account I've heard of. link The bases are 60mm wide as are the extra light infantry who will support the elephants. I'll have four units with one elephant model and 2 LI stands, and one with 2 elephants and one LI stand. All the units will fight the same and be 18 cm wide. Best, Simon |
