Gents,

The past few posts have detailed the background, collection and painting of the Masai for use in the Darkest Africa setting.

In this post we now take a look at rules and the rules of choice for this period.

We take a popular North American Wars 18th century rules set, Muskets & Tomahawks and put it to the test. We'll discuss the reason behind its use, its adaptability and just how we can bring it to play Darkest Africa games in the 19th century…

I trust there will be much food for thought….so dust off those armies of Africa, they march once again!

Great paint jobs, interesting blog!

A friend of mine has a large collection of African tribesmen from Copplestone and we even played out a Chris Peers designed campaign from an old wargaming mag that was a lot of fun. Using his rules, we probably had at least 20 some battles over a couple years time and in the end, I won it using the fearsome Masai.

So I'm looking forward to following your efforts with them.

The publishers of M&T are coming out with a Darkest Africa rule set. It should be out soon. I believe it's called Congo.

That's great news! I will let my buddy who has the huge Darkest Africa collection know.

Gents,

A pretty big game of Rifles & Spears – 750pts and the blooding (literally) of the Germans in Masailand.

Lots too see and enjoy.

Hi Happy Wanderer,

These appear to be just what our group is looking for in an African game. I see in the link that there is a spiral bound rulebook. Where are these available from, or better (depending on which side of the pond you/we are on) is there a pdf version.

Regards
John
