Folks, I've been thinking about troop quality in Chain of Command of late and whether making it a bit more granular might be a good thing. D6 based systems necessarily make the effect of a +1 change very large, but there may be some ways to smooth the steps out a bit. I have a blog post up with my thoughts here: link Take a look and let me know what you think! Ed |

Experienced Green? Surely a contradiction in terms? |

Substitute the word poor for green. Experienced poor troops is possible. Basically, troops that have been in combat for far too long and have burnt out. The kills on them might not be an actual kill but them finding nice quiet area to hide while the shooting is going on and then putting their hands up once it has ended if they are on the wrong side of the lines. |

Worthy exercise, Ed. Thanks for sharing. I would be compelled to keep considering a technique that wouldn't require an additional roll with new target numbers. |

Agreed on the pain of having the extra die roll. I'd love to find a way that didn't require them and didn't introduce complications elsewhere, The other approach I played around with was modifying the number of firing dice, but since the relationships from green to regular and regular to Elite are different and also vary between range bands, this jus seemed simpler to implement. Thanks! Ed |

"Reluctant veteran" might be a better term |

Agreed. The progression really should be Green-Trained-Regular-Veteran-Elite, or something like that. However, you're stuck with the terminology you inherit, it seemed better to create a single modifier rather than two new "quality grades". That said, I agree "Experienced Green" doesn't exactly roll off the tongue…. |
