Surely there can be nothing better for sheer spectacle and colour as the Italian wars. This rather wonderful game ended with history being re-written. King François' fame and fortune spreads all over Europe for the greater glory of Frnace. link |

Concur, very colourful. If the King had not been so courageous, the day may have been lost, instead of the baggage. Thanks for sharing the spectacle and AAR. |

Looks great – what rules? |
smacdowall | 28 Feb 2016 4:39 p.m. PST |
We used my Close Fire rules (16th C Version) which can be downloaded for free from my website at link Cheers Simon |

Many thanks for the speedy response. I have already downloaded these rules. In fact I downloaded your medieval rules as well and was wondering which of your rules would best suit the battle of Bouvines 1214? Your rules seem to cover before of after this period. Definitely not shieldwall times but would the Tree of Battle rules suit? Regards |

Thanks for sharing the pics, info, and your rules. They do look interesting, and the miniatures and battles look superb! The link for the 16th Century QRS doesn't appear to be working though. It is just the same rules listing, rather than the expected QRS. |

I have fixed the link to the QRS – thanks for pointing out! @Broglie it is true that I have a big gap from 1100 to 1350 the only reason for this is that I have never really delved into that period. I suppose Tree of Battles could be adapted back in time but there is probably too much emphasis on archery for the earlier period. Probably the best rules and easiest to adapt would be Comitatus. They cover through to the first crusade. We have done El Cid using Comitatus and it worked very well indeed. Cheers Simon |

Thanks Simon just made my day after a very stressful and depressing weekend involving family. Pavia is one of my favorite battles and to see the result turned on its head excellant. regards Guy T |

Many thanks for that Simon. I will have a look at adapting Tree of Battles. Many thanks for making your rules available free of charge. |

Simon, When I click on the link for the 16th Century CFEO rules QRS, I am stil getting the rules instead of the QRS. Can you re-check the link? Thanks, Ezza |
smacdowall | 01 Mar 2016 9:31 a.m. PST |
I have re-loaded the links so all should be well now. Given the interest I have also cleaned up the rules, removing a few orphans and adding some minor changes. Those of you who have already downloaded may wish to check the new, slightly tweaked version. Cheers Simon |

Some great pictures – looks like a fantastic game |

Looks great! Thanks for fixing the QRS – works fine now. For earlier battles, can you just use light artillery ranges of effective and close range, as is, for archers and crossbowmen, or do they need to be tweaked a bit to account for more numerous men shooting, smaller weapons? The light artillery ranges mentioned above seem like they'd work fairly well for those archaic weapons, some of which were used until about 1515, or so. |

I actually treat crossbowmen and archers the same as arquebusiers. All classified as skirmishers, |

Simon, As Mako11 said, thanks for fixing the link to the QRS. One of our club members has a good collection of Italian Wars figures, so hopefuly we will be able to try out your rules soon. Ezza |
