This will be a block game (sim. to Commands and Colors: Napoleonics) and will be published by Compass Games. You can easily play the game with miniatures on a larger hex mat if you wish to do so. You can pre-order the game here: link |

Looks brilliant, but before pre-ordering it would be interesting to know a proposed publication date – or have I missed this somewhere? I would certainly want to get a copy, and to know whether there are any plans to produce other 18th century conflicts for the system? Mollinary |

Clash for a Continent and Hold the Line, both by Worthington Games, covers F&I and AWI (HTL also covers the War of 1812, iirc) and are block games similar to Command & Colors. Both are published although the former has been discontinued. They are similar, but do not use the command card method for activation, rather using command points, which are based on the quality of your commander. Given that this is by Richard Borg I am sure it will be like his other titles. My understanding is that AWI/SYW was one of the first periods he wrote C&C for. Nice to see that it is finally being published. |

Richard play tested Tricorne AWI at Fall-In last year. He play tested SYW at Historicon in 2014. So they exist. Whether or not they get published…. |

Very excited to see this but I too was leery to pre-order given the absence of a publishing date. |

They are not supposed to charge your CC until the game is almost ready to ship. |

Also curious about the publication date, and I guess my other question is whether this is entirely self-contained, i.e. all the forces/rules are needed to play any AWI battle without the need for a supplement*. I'm guessing it is, but it'd be nice to know. *I'm ok with scenario books. |

I'm in as well. Played the SYW variant before and thought it was a nice addition. |

From the website: The 12 battles, showcased in the scenario section of this booklet, feature a stylized battlefield map that emphasize the important terrain features and highlight the historical deployment of forces in scale with the game system. These scenarios are a smattering of some of the better-known engagements of the American Revolution. Bunker Hill -17 June 1775 Long Island (Grant's Attack) – 27 August 1776 Long Island (British Flank March) – 27 August 1776 Freeman's Farm – 19 September 1777 Bemis Heights – 7 October 1777 Bemis Heights (British Redoubts) – 7 October 1777 Monmouth – 28 June 1778 Camden – 16 August 1780 Cowpens – 17 January 1781 Guilford Courthouse – 15 March 1781 Hobkirk's Hill – 25 April 1781 Eutaw Springs – 8 September 1781 |

I too saw Richard playtesting this new AWI offering at Fall-In this past November. During our conversation, he mentioned that the game was going to come with 1/72 plastic miniatures (like Battle Cry). Anyone know what transpired that resulted in the change to wooden blocks (like Ancients and Napoleonic)? |

Likely cost and availability were the issues. Blocks are simple and used on other C&C systems. I think the more pressing question is the ETA one. I'm reluctant to order absent some kind of ETA. |

I have contacted Compass Games and asked them to add a predicted publish date for the game. They said that they would do so as soon as possible. |
coopman | 02 Mar 2016 9:00 a.m. PST |
They have added Sept. 2016 to the description page as the anticipated release date. |

Thanks for asking them about the ETA for release, coopman. This looks very interesting; I might be persuaded to pre-order. |

I've been fortunate to be part of many C&C Tricorne games over the last few years with Richard's game group. I know the system was originally designed for the SYW on the continent. It has also been play tested (with slight modifications) for the FIW, War of Austrian Succession and the Jacobite Rebellion. IMHO, the system really captures the look and feel of the linear period. The dice rolling is not so much about causing casualties. Its more about shaking morale and causing morale checks. In that regard, Tricorne sets itself apart from the other periods. Of all the C&C variants, I think Tricorne is my favorite. |

My post yesterday didn't seem to take so i'll try again. I've had the opportunity to play in most of the Tricorne play test games with Richard's game group. Tricorne was originally designed for the SYW on the continent. We've also played many scenarios for the FIW, WAS and the Jacobite Rebellion (with some minor modifications). It really seems to capture the look and feel of the period. Specifically the linear tactics. The dice aren't so much about causing casualties but more about shaking morale and causing morale checks. We've had a lot of fun with it. For my part, it is probably my favorite in the C&C collection. |

I watched a game that was being run at CW 2016. Richard was at the table but not running it. We chatted for a bit about the game. One change is that all units (he said) now take 4 hits). Also units take morale checks and if they roll sixes they fall back. I have to admit I forget the entire rule for that but there was a morale phase. Units ran or fell back a lot. Hope this helps. |
