What is the likelihood that you will finish a typical hobby project?

100%
90%
etc.

Cyrus the Great26 Feb 2016 11:27 p.m. PST

Eventually 100%, but there may be several interruptions along the way with literally years passing.

KSmyth27 Feb 2016 12:00 a.m. PST

My goal is always 100%, and I think that for most of those I have (a lot) it's likely I'll finish. I love painting, it's the gaming time that's hard for me to get.

That said, I have a lot of unpainted figures, but have become super conservative about buying many more, and starting new projects at age 60 is pretty much a no no.

Narratio27 Feb 2016 12:24 a.m. PST

As Cyrus says. It may take… heck, it does take years to finish, but they do get done.

David Manley27 Feb 2016 12:26 a.m. PST

There is a high chance that it will reach a high level of maturity but nice project is ever "finished" (unlessential I close it down and sell it off). My Cod War project was finished 2 Years ago but has recently entered a new phase with the release of some new models. Same with my 1/600 ACW project

richinq27 Feb 2016 1:07 a.m. PST

Not completed a project in years, always buying new stuff or moving on to somthing else.

I have sorted out all my gaming stuff and am left with 5 28mm projects which I intend to finish before I get more stuff for that project

Got to finish my WW1 project before Salute in April.

Hopefully the 2016 Salute

GarrisonMiniatures27 Feb 2016 2:23 a.m. PST

Just because I think a project is finished doesn't mean it is, so unless the project in question is very limited or well defined – 0%.

When I finish one, I'll let you know.

Mute Bystander27 Feb 2016 4:00 a.m. PST

Define finished?

Given my definition, my Fantasy Dwarf and Goblin armies will be done (if I live that long) being collected soon but painting may have to continue in the new earth…

Smaller projects may be done completely in the next few years to a decade if I live that long.

Martin Rapier27 Feb 2016 4:20 a.m. PST

100%. I plan what I need for a particular increment, buy it, paint it.

I'll probably never, ever 'finish' some periods (been doing WW2 for 40+ years and no end in sight yet), but each activity is a discrete project with specific aims – 'rifle company in X scale for Y theatre' or whatever.

You have to FINISH? No one told me!

WarWizard27 Feb 2016 5:12 a.m. PST

Finishing a project 100%.
Finishing a project on schedule 0%.

I'm never done – not yet anyway.

Vigilant27 Feb 2016 5:47 a.m. PST

Gradually focussing on finishing a project before starting the next due to having too many different projects on the go at the same time. Sort of New Year's resolution that I've managed to stick to this year, aided by an upswing in my depression that has allowed me to paint nearly every day since Christmas rather than a few every couple of months or so that has been the case in the past. Looking forward to getting to play with the 1st completed range (Spanish Civil War) next week when my Assaltos help defend Madrid against the Fascists!

Cosmic Reset27 Feb 2016 5:53 a.m. PST

Based on my current to-do list, 49.12%.

Disco Joe27 Feb 2016 6:18 a.m. PST

Rarely finish a project.

100%!! I'm actually finishing it today! The very last figure (the Warlord) for my Spanish SAGA faction. Woohoo!

The fact that I'm taking the Spanish to the "CincyCon 2016" Saga tourney in early March had….. a lot to do with it.

AussieAndy27 Feb 2016 8:13 a.m. PST

I always finish a project before moving on to the next one and, so far, I have finished everything that I've started. Do I get an elephant stamp? The only qualification is that I have bought figures for future projects a couple of times when bargains were available.

Sudwind27 Feb 2016 9:06 a.m. PST

It depends on how interesting the project is and how busy I am in my real life! When I was painting up 1/6000 ships to convert Victory in the Pacific and War at Sea to miniatures, I chugged through the project relentlessly. Even having beautiful enlarged and modified (by me and other friends) game mats printed up. It was the same way every time I started painting up DBA armies. I would focus on each one till it was completed. It did not stop me from collecting lead for "future" projects though. My 3mm Battle of the Bulge project was going just as well….till I started working on my Masters degree. I need to get back to that one, but I have been distracted lately by other shiny stuff….micro armor, an enduring source of joy, and X-wing.

14Bore27 Feb 2016 9:08 a.m. PST

As I've finished one (but still tweaking it) if I ever get moving I'm sure I can finish another in my lifetime. (Russian 1st western army of Borodino 1=60)

50 to 90% .If I have someone to play a game or era with. then I almost "finish" my project. So, for example , I have collected and painted my German WWII army for the past 12 years and I am still collecting and painting small sets of miniatures to add to the army group. So it goes and I am 90% done. My Vietnam miniatures are "done" but I could and would add more but my gaming buddy doesn't seem interested in the era.

Timmo uk27 Feb 2016 2:17 p.m. PST

I've finished projects but with the knowledge that I will probably add to them one day. Right now I don't really feel any great need to add to any of them. I wish I were able to really honestly say I'm done with this period but something tempts me back.

galvinm27 Feb 2016 3:20 p.m. PST

Never.

I have lots of various armies for Warmaster, ranging from 1,000 points, to a couple of armies over 5,000 points. Still not considered finished.

I have more than enough Foundry Greeks painted and based to play any version of rules. Still not considered finished.

I have probably 15,000 15mm ACW for Johnny Reb. Still not considered finished.

Finish?

Never!

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut27 Feb 2016 3:35 p.m. PST

I gave up on finishing projects. For me, it's the doung and the playing, not the finishing. When I *do* finish a project, I always feel kind of empty, like I have lost a friend.

Twilight Samurai27 Feb 2016 7:23 p.m. PST

For me it's fifty-fifty at best, and then there's the thing when I start thinking something needs changing or improving.

Winston Smith27 Feb 2016 9:22 p.m. PST

I am now down to essentially three projects.
Flames of War. I have American, Soviet and British armies. Any new armies would be just a variant of one of those. Others in our group can supply anything else needed.
I have tons of NW Frontier British colonials, both Britidh and Afghans. I haven't added to them in years.
I have massive AWI armies of all but French. In essence all three are complete enough to do massive games, but what they heck. I can always do More. Like Skinners battalions
