So there is a new GW boxed game coming out in May called Deathwatch Overkill.

It isn't in the US store for pre order yet and I'm not sure how much $330 USD NZ is in real money. Especially when you consider the antipodes get soaked for GW stuff with shipping or whatever.

I'm guessing it might be $200 USD or $175 USD in the US?

Betrayal At Calth is $315 USD there and $150 USD in the US.

Anyway it has 50 cool looking models in it, 39 of them gene stealer cult army figures. Which is fantastic. I have a whole army of Genestealers but only a couple of hybrids and this has 28 hybrids in it.

I probably won't get it right away as I still have a bunch of AoS and Horus Heresy stuff to do but I'm sure I'll get it by and by. Or at least see if I can get the hybrids from it.

Just so freaking cool that GW dug into their old material and redid this. Love it. The models are awesome revisions on the original idea. I really like the mining planet angle they went with to keep the original aesthetic of the suits the hybrids wore without copying it.

Cannot wait to get my hands on this. I am especially looking forward to using the 4th generation hybrids to do uninfected miners and do a campaign from contact to full blown uprising.

Like you though, I have a bunch of Horus Heresy and Badab War stuff to finish first though…

Pictors Studio27 Feb 2016 12:29 a.m. PST

Well it isn't coming out until next week so you have some time . . .

I don't think I'm likely to get to it until Thanksgiving or so.

Redroom27 Feb 2016 6:08 a.m. PST

Those are nice

These look really cool, and I'm glad that GW have brought back the Hybrids I love so much, however the price tag will be prohibitive… plus I have plenty of Chaos Cultists, Purestrains and Plastic Hybrids to play with…

Pictors Studio27 Feb 2016 8:39 a.m. PST

The price seems to be pretty reasonable. Even at $200 USD that is only $4 USD a figure and some of them are character models, and that is if you are just straight up throwing the game away.

It is still a big chunk of change in one shot. I probably won't buy one until, like I said, I clear some current projects.

This would be a perfect set to play some type of game using the Infinity rules too.

MBrewington27 Feb 2016 10:58 a.m. PST

My shop guy was saying it is going to be $165. USD

peterx Supporting Member of TMP27 Feb 2016 11:04 a.m. PST

The US dollar to the NZ dollar would price the set at 218.00 US. So, we'll see.

peterx Supporting Member of TMP27 Feb 2016 11:38 a.m. PST

The GW website says 165 US as well. So that isn't a bad value.

kallman27 Feb 2016 11:45 a.m. PST

Time to convert an old Cadillac model for the Magus' personal armored transport. grin

If GW is going to create a smaller scale Team Kill kind of game I might just come back to 40K.

Pictors Studio27 Feb 2016 2:00 p.m. PST

Kallman, you could get one of these:

WOW!!!!! Would love to have just one. All five are fabulous but you only need one. What a find.

Pictors Studio27 Feb 2016 8:34 p.m. PST

You can get them individually.

Well damn! Who is this company that make such great alternate 40K models?

Pictors Studio27 Feb 2016 10:05 p.m. PST

I think they are called Wargame Exclusive.

Pizzagrenadier27 Feb 2016 10:45 p.m. PST

I picked up the van from them. It is a really nice kit. Very well cast and only 2 parts for the body and 4 separate wheels. It will be my cult van and generic civilian vehicle for when the time comes to dive into the new cult models.

Mithmee28 Feb 2016 9:32 p.m. PST

They should gotten rid of them.

They were a far better army then Nids.

Bob Runnicles29 Feb 2016 12:50 p.m. PST

Rules for using the Cult directly with 40K will be in next week's White Dwarf – the rules for using the Deathwatch are in this week's.

Here's the latest on BOLS: link

There are 10 DW space marines (incl. a terminator, a biker and two assault marines with jump packs) but the picture shows 11.

For the GS Cult army there are 34 minis (28 hybrids, 2 purestrains and 4 aberrants).

Plus the usual board game stuff like tiles, cards and markers of course.

Looks like this latest miniature/board game is a great value at $165 USD: link

Could GW be winning its way back into our hearts?

Thomas Whitten29 Feb 2016 2:33 p.m. PST

I'm looking forward to this. This may get me playing 40k again.

"They should gotten rid of them.

They you would think they should have kept them.

durecell29 Feb 2016 6:46 p.m. PST

I've already preordered my copy. I'm a big Tyranid fan and am looking forwards to getting it. The models really look great, I just need to work out how to fit them in with my Tyranids colour scheme wise.

Dragon Gunner01 Mar 2016 7:36 a.m. PST

The best release in years and for my favorite army I will be picking up a box!

My older metal hybrids will be converted to carry weapons not shown in the game. (i.e. shotguns, flamers etc…)

Mithmee01 Mar 2016 11:03 p.m. PST

My fault was typing on my tablet here on Kauai and I forgot to type the word never.

So what I meant is

They should NEVER have gotten rid of them.

They were a far better army then the Nids.

No heavy weapons hybrids, though. That's too bad.

WarpSpeed02 Mar 2016 9:47 p.m. PST

Welcome back,we will see if they measure up to 2nd edition standards.A genestealer cult army can be a tough adversary given the right scenarios.

By John 5403 Mar 2016 10:42 a.m. PST

Hmmmmmmmm, indulge me, please.

I dont play 40K,BUT, i do play a lot of 1st edition Space Hulk, love that game! and im thinking of maybe expanding my 'Stealers, i have a lot of first de purestrains, and the glorious hybrids from the 'Genestealer' expansion set. I figure, add some of the old, plastic Imperial guard, there are rule for using them in Space Hulk, then have a big game with Marine Terminators cleasing a Cult infested hive, or somesuch.

Going back to the late eighties Genestealer cult armies, one of two of these would be perfect for a cult limo, they look amazing sculpts!

The rest of his stuff is equally glorious, how does he get away with it, from a IP point of view? or should l not even ask? lol

Unless it's an exact copy or he's using GW's names and symbols, there is no copyright, trademark, or patent infringement. There is no prohibition from creating something that is clearly "inspired by" another company's work.

Covert Walrus03 Mar 2016 1:15 p.m. PST

Good to hear this . . . As I was buildign up a small cult to act as scouts/beachhead/infiltrators for my Epic 'Nid forces.

Now the younger players will recognize what the blazes they are :)

Dragon Gunner03 Mar 2016 6:52 p.m. PST

The picture does not show all the Genestealer Cult models that come in the box. The following are not shown…

#1 Patriarch (he is not the obese 80's Patriarch)

#2 Magus

#3 Genestealer Familiars

#4 Hybrid Leader with needle pistol and bone sword.

#5 Hybrid Abberants ( larger mutant hybrids equipped with power hammers and power pick axes.)

I am wondering if GW is going to make a full blown 40K army or if this is just a one shot item? I am buying a box as soon as its available!

I am pleased they made the bulk of them with low tech weapons it fits the whole, "we scrounge whatever we can find and improvise".

Your Kidding05 Mar 2016 9:05 a.m. PST

Happy to see these. Where did I put that old hammer codec. These also look like they will work in a post apocalyptic set.
