Was working on some of Ainsty's 15mm vehicles for display at shows and was wondering if all their vehicles have bare metal hulls. I know the tanks and combat cars are supposed to be, but what about the 'jeeps', infantry skimmers, and recovery vehicles? I'm pretty sure they're not made of the same materials, but I also don't think they were ever really described in detail in the books. Curious about your opinions. |

I'll be painting the soft skins same colour as the skirts on the blowers and combat cars, seems the best approach to make it all fit together. |

As far as uniforms go there used to be a few pages on color schemes and ranks on the Hammers Slammers Crucible site, as for their vehicle schemes ive always gone with the popular bare metal look being the standard scheme but there is no reason as far as i am aware that you could not add a splash of color in the form of welded plate armour field repairs and possibly different colored tarps. Personally it would make sence if they repainted their vehicles depending on the environment and also to suit the conditions they would be contracted to fight in or on. As i usually like to play the proverbial underdog i am currently working on a rather large but not so well off as the Hammers Slammers made up mercenary force to game with but i have opted to go with servanna / brush type of camo scheme, but at the end of the day i guess it all boils down to what you think looks good on the table. :) |

There is one instance in the stories where the combat cars (at least) were painted in "dazzle pattern". This is my take on this (author approved, of course)
This was applied for the particular campaign (Oltenia 336TW) and there were no blower tanks mentioned as being in theatre but there were jeeps and artillery (as I recall). Bearing in mind the usual camo employed by the Slammers was via special 'tarps' which mimic the background, there was obviously something unusual about the Oltenian campaign (lots of fluid engagements with teleporting aliens etc) but – having said that – it does indicate that, in the right circumstance, the Slammers were happy to paint vehicles in camo (probably all their vehicles) where appropriate/necessary. Standard Slammers 2 tonne A21 Jeeps are made of steel with a flexible polymer 'skirt'. I've always assumed that the steel has anti-corrosive properties or coatings, enabling the bare metal look to be maintained (if desired) without issue. John T |

Oh, just to point out, the illustration I drew, above, represents a vehicle with the camo applied properly back at base. The photographs of a miniature represents a field expediency performed by the crew. That's shorthand for "the making tape went all goofy on me" That – in itself – is shorthand for "I didn't do a very nice paint job on that one…" Mea maxima culpa John T |
