Knowing what you know about yourself do you see yourself as had been an Austrian or Prussian partisan in the Seven Weeks War of 1866? 1) Austria 2) Prussia 3) Neither 4) The what war? 5) I will give no answer |

Well, as I live in southern Bohemia, that would definitely put me in the Austrian camp. |

I went to Karlovy Vary (Königgratz) a number of years ago. A very small museum with a nice diorama. What surprised me was the size of the battlefield. Reading about it is different from visiting it… Since I find the 19th century interesting, I would like to answer 6) = both ! Not only building a Prussian/German army for 1870 but also an Austrian army (Pendraken). |

Well, given the joyous 120 years of world peace and harmony which followed the Prussian conquest of Germany, I think I'll plump for Austria. 1866 is one of my favourite nineteenth century wars, partly as the results lived with us for so long. |

Austrian. Always side with the (in retrospect) underdog. |

Austria. My grandfather was born in Wurttemberg (before it was Baden-Wurttemberg). In addition, I tend to oppose those who push for more state centralization, even if they have a reputation for efficiency. Kevin |

With my luck, Austria (I have armies for both) |
bruntonboy | 26 Feb 2016 8:04 a.m. PST |
Austria, what a different word we would have had if they had won. |
Frederick | 26 Feb 2016 8:10 a.m. PST |
1) – I love a challenge and I agree with Bruntonboy, I think the world would be a better place if Austrio-Hungary had been the rightful leader of the German people |

I always regarded it as unique that Austria sent troops to help Prussis fight the Danes in 1864. So I would select the Danes. Not an option, then both armies. |

In real life, neutral. But I have an 1866 Austrian army waiting to see combat. |

'I think the world would be a better place if Austrio-Hungary had been the rightful leader of the German people' I hadn't realised Archduke Ferdinand was Prussian… The world would have been different, but better? Actually, it would have meant no 1970 war with France, perhaps WW1 would have seen a more powerful France being considered the 'enemy' by Britain rather than Germany… with GB siding with Austria in 1914… |

Before thousands of 1866 enthusiasts book their battlefield tours to Karlovy Vary following Porthos's post, I should point out that Karlovy Vary is actually the Old Spa Town of Carlsbad! Koniggratz modern name is Hradec Kralove, and the battlefield is almost completely unspoilt and well worth a visit. The museum of the battle in Chlum has been refurbished with EU funds over the last few years and is also worth calling in on. Mollinary |

I would choose Austria, just to derail Bismarck's master plan. I have no idea who is " in the right" here. |

Prussia, as that's where my ancestors came from. |

3)I'd choose Italy because for Italians this is our Third Independence War we fought aside Prussians. Marco |

I have some bits of the family tree from Poland, but at that time, that could be either, I suppose. |

Jurgenation – Ever game the wars of 1848 or 1864? |
vtsaogames | 28 Feb 2016 10:15 a.m. PST |
Weasel, Junta began as a miniatures game based on the fictitious Habsburg province of Snurdia in 1848. In our second or third game, one of the revolutionary players was crestfallen to discover the couldn't defect. That led to the board game to allow just that. No 1864 yet, though we recently played Montebello 1859 several times. |
