Hi all. I have a menagerie of 28/32mm scifi troops from Sedition Wars, GW Tau, White Wolf's Trinity, Grenadier Combat Zone and a bunch of other random "oh, cool!" purchases. What I'm looking for is a 28mm skirmish or platoon scale game system, with maybe a few skimmers, exosuits or light vehicles, but with a build/stat your own units system. I'm not really interested in trying to shoehorn or proxy my minis into an established army list, so that eliminates 40K, BTGOA and Deadzone. Suggestions? G. |

There are a lot of choices and you should be getting many responses soon. My own personal favorite is "LaserGrenadiers." (No surprise there!) All of the rules are posted in my blog site at lasergrenadier.wordpress.com The rules were intended for use with any science fiction figures the players may have. The game can range from skirmish level actions to huge combined arms battles, depending on the players and the size of the tabletop. I have used them for battles ranging from a few figures on each side up to the final battles of major campaigns with up to a hundred figures and twenty armored vehicles per side. Basic info: One figure equals one man. One vehicle equals one vehicle. No superheroes – one penetrating hit will eliminate a man. Vehicle systems are degraded by hits and damage accumulates. Players can field all types of infantry up to powered armor and robotic. Fire combat dominates the game, with melee combat occurring infrequently. All types of conventional and sci-fi weaponry are included in the tables. |

Hmmmm Quadrant 13 from TooFatLardies might suit you, although it is more company aimed. The system has a way to stat up anything you want to throw at it. |

My usual suspect is usual. See 4X TMP link It sounds more fitting to the outlined parameters than it did in that tread, actually. |

5150 Star Army fits the bill. You can play them with any figures. Download the free Chain Reaction rules to see if you like the Reaction System that is used with THW games. link This little freebie is a great How to play guide as well.

Majestic 12 Games You could reskin Ares from a fantasy to a sci-fi game by just changing what things get called. There is actually a builder program on their forums for this (not the reskinning, but making troops). Defiance: Vital Ground and it's CQB supplement Defiance: Evolution of Arms are their sci-fi skirmish games. Both games have free demo versions of the rules and sample unit stats to try out the systems to see if you like them. The demo rules do not include any force building rules, at all. The demo rules are clearly labelled as such in the Resources section of the links below. This link is for Ares. mj12games.com/ares This link is for Defiance: Vital Ground. mj12games.com/defiance Another option, this one is completely free is Savage Worlds Showdown. This is a direct link to the PDF. PDF link This is a direct link to the Showdown Troop Builder. link |

Clash on the Fringe yo. link It's written to follow the same sort of "feel" as the venerable Rogue Trader, with lots of aliens (12 or so, if I count right), a points system (and you can completely reverse engineer everything), campaigns, psionics, unit traits and all that good stuff. And the game system is even kinda clever, if I do say so myself. |

I've got some free playtest rules called Rampage I'm peddling. 28mm. 5 man squads, up to 5 squad units, 1+ unit armies. Played in rounds, not turns, using order counters. The Stall continent offers some skimmers, infantry, light suits and such. Has 4 other lists also. Feed back is most welcome. Give us a shout. Has anyone mentioned StarGrunt yet? Jon Tuffley, 1996, now a free pdf from Ground Zero Games. Get an index from either hyperbear or star grunt.ca, as well as official errata and some rules analysis. The rules are pretty good, but not indexed or very well organized. I've been running StarGrunt games set in the Traveller universe for years (just ran one at DunDraCon the weekend before last). Play is fast and fun, but allows players to implement realistic infantry tactics. |

You could use Gruntz – just stat each figure as a specialist and maybe double the movement distances and weapon ranges |

Another vote for Stargrunt here. Worked fine with my 40k stuff as well as Void and warzone stuff. You just need to work out the TQs and so forth. |
