After my massive painting-fest for Waterloo last Spring, I completely lost my painting mojo until late November! Here's what I've done on the Napoleonic front since then:

picture

Austrian Grenadier Battalion 'Bissingen' circa 1809.

picture

Austrian Grenadier Battalion 'Hahn' circa 1809.

picture

British 23rd Foot (Royal Welch Fusiliers) circa 1815 (I actually did these for Waterloo but didn't get around to photographing them).

picture

Austrian Infantry Regiment 8 'Erzherzog Ludwig' circa 1809.

picture

General de Division Lefebvre-Desnouettes (again, I did this chap for Waterloo).

picture

Portuguese 13th Infantry Regiment (Peniche).

picture

Portuguese 11th Infantry Regiment (1st Almeida).

picture

Duchy of Warsaw 1st Infantry Regiment.

picture

Portuguese 21st Infantry Regiment (Valenza).

picture

Spanish Infantry in British-supplied uniforms, circa 1812-13.

picture

Spanish Artillery.

picture

Spanish Valencia Regiment circa 1808-1809.

picture

Spanish Cazadores circa 1808-1809.

Looking good. Nice peninsular force there.

Ta. Yeah, just filling the gaps in my collection and replacing ancient, worn-out units of 1980s-vintage Minifigs, Battle Honours, Falcon and Heritage figures. I discovered a couple of years ago that I had well over 2,000 ABs waiting to be painted. I've reduced that pile by nearly 1,000 in the last year… But bought around 500 new ones…

:)

Jemima Fawr24 Feb 2016 1:37 p.m. PST

I should add that all the flags are by Fighting 15s.

vtsaogames24 Feb 2016 2:08 p.m. PST

All very nice but oh, those Portuguese!

You are to be commended. I intended to upgrade some of my Napoleonics from the stuff I got back in the 70's. But all I did was buy some painted figures instead. The AB cuirassiers sure look better than those Heritage Carabiniers.

Anybody want some carabiniers?

von Winterfeldt24 Feb 2016 2:31 p.m. PST

very very productive, I wish I could turn out figures so quickly – I like the spirals

Gratian24 Feb 2016 3:04 p.m. PST

I get mine from fighting 15s too….mostly

Jemima Fawr24 Feb 2016 3:33 p.m. PST

Oh yeah, I love the Portuguese. There's something very attractive about the simplicity of the uniform (ditto the late Spanish). That said… Having painted seven units of the Bleeped texts, I went off-piste and turned one unpainted Portuguese unit into the late Spanish pictured above and another into Dutch militia for Waterloo.

AB then brought out Dutch Militia a few days later in a deliberate provocation… Grrr! :(

Ah Heritage… my first love and my first 15mm army (1813 Prussians). My little Heritage guys fought until they started breaking at the ankles. They didn't care that they were half the size of an AB Kurassier! They stormed Gross-Goerschen, kicked Murat's arse at Liebertwolkwitz, defended the redoubts at Bautzen and kicked the Guard out of Plancenoit, but like all good old soldiers, eventually faded away… :,(

VW,

By 'spirals' do you mean the knots on the thighs of the Hungarian grenadiers? I used to paint the bloody things freehand, but now find that if you paint simple trefoils in yellow, then add blue dots to the centre of each 'leaf' of the trefoil, it looks just as good and takes a fraction of the time and effort.

RMD,
Glad to see you're back in the saddle again and looking good.

vtsaogames24 Feb 2016 4:34 p.m. PST

Hmm, too bad mine are already painted. If I do any more…

Gunner Dunbar24 Feb 2016 4:35 p.m. PST

Very nice.

Grand and the 'knot' tip is very clever – well done.

with spirals – I ment those on the poles for the colours, as for the Hungarian sword nots, great, there after my 28 mm French Revolutionary cuirassiers I will paint Austrian Hungarians of 1792 – most likley won't paint the braiding for the Hungarian trousers though

First class stuff there M, I am doing a 1808 Spanish army myself now. Great army to paint with lots of variation.

Cheers VB,

Yeah, Waterloo certainly knocked it out of me for a while, but nowhere near as bad as the AB figures and General de Brigade Megagames! Those put me off painting Napoleonics or SYW for 15 years! Those Austrians and the early Spanish have languished in the 'To Paint' pile for nearly 20 years.

I think the key is variation – I'm trying to build up my Austrian army as a matter of priority, followed by the Spanish, but I'm trying to vary what I paint this time, in order to keep the mojo going. I've also been painting A LOT of Cold War stuff, as well as the occasional VBCW unit, in an attempt to break up the monotony. However, with over 30 Austrian line infantry units still needed for Aspern-Essling and Wagram, it's going to be a challenge!

Cheers GD & Nic.

VW,

Ah, THOSE spirals! :) Ta. Yes, the Hungarian braiding is a pain, but it does make them stand out and the 'trefoil method' is pretty simple to do. I used to do the mixed yellow/black braiding, but it looked awful, so now I stick with just yellow (in any case, they apparently sometimes used just yellow as a cost-saving measure).

John,

Cheers. Yeah, the Spanish was always my favourite army from the moment I bought the first gorgeous Tony Barton Battle Honours figures. I think I've mentioned before, but the 'random pose variations' meant that I had one entire regiment of cigarette-puffing Spaniards, dubbed 'El Regimiento del Pulmonocancero'. Then some bastard nicked them… :( So I'm starting again from scratch now.

I'm aiming on having enough Spaniards for Talavera and doing them in the 'classic' Spanish uniform, though I'll also do the odd late-uniformed unit. The 1812-uniformed unit was done on a whim because I needed some Spaniards for a Salamanca game a few weeks ago and I had a spare unit of Portuguese. I'd also like to do some regiments in the standardised late uniform of sky-blue trousers and dark blue coats with red facings for Vittoria.

Are they by the same artiste, Jemima Fawr? No link to the source provided oddly.

Great work whatever.
