A friend and I just assembled and are in the process of painting two separate Rubicon 1/56 Opel Blitz trucks. Both of us washed the model thoroughly and primed fully.

While painting, we're both having issues with paint simply peeling off, even after drying for a few days! His was brush applied, and mine was airbrushed. I applied slightly pressure to the truckbed to remove some excess paint and both paint and primer came right off, exposing the bare plastic.

Anyone else have this issue? I've never had this problem in any of the resin or plastic models I've assembled, so I'm thinking it may be an issue with the Rubicon model itself.

Interesting and aggravating problem. You washed, assume it was with a light dish soap solution? Possibly your paint itself was the issue? Or maybe the surface is too smooth for the primer to bond. Try lightly sanding with a very fine grit paper to rough the surface. Careful sanding should preserve detail and give a better surface for your primer/paint to bond to.

I have not had that problem with plastic models. Bruce Meyer (Company B) mentioned using something to burn off the volatile mold release. I have been using a creme brulee torch on resin and it works perfectly as long as you don't linger. It might be trickier for stryene since it is flammable

What primer did you use? A good primer shouldn't just peel off -- the primers function is to stick to the substrate and provide a surface for the paint to stick to.

Yes, model was thoroughly washed in soapy water and scrubbed. Yes, I used Krylon primer which I've been using for 10 years with no problems. My Opel Blitz was airbrushed alongside Warlord plastic, Warlord resin, and Italeri plastic models in one batch which are perfectly fine.
