Operation Barbarossa, Ukraine 1941 Last night's scenario involved a German panzer thrust to sever a road and rail link to the south a Kiev by taking a low rise overlooking the linear features. The Soviets had to hold the position and could expect armoured reserves from either side of the board including some ‘big beast' KV2s and early T34s. The Germans eventually secured the objective, helped by some successful Stuka strikes, but lost most of a panzer battalion in the process. This was a real charnel house of an engagement. Everyone kept passing their morale tests adding to the fire power and slaughter the next turn. In the end the battle field was ablaze with burning wrecks. Are all those tanks to scale? Those KV's don't look much bigger than the BT's or Panzers. Great looking table, though! Thanks for sharing. |

The BT may have a scale issue (or it could be just the picture). It does looks bigger thant the T-34 that's on fire behind it. |

Hi Ostrowsky, Nice scenario! I liked the flag-draped scout car! On another topic, I have a favour to ask of you. Accidentally your post here "Operation Barbarossa, Ukraine 1941" also somehow also got posted in full as a reply in my recent post titled "Panzergrenadier Warp 9 AAR – Verkhne-Kumsky '42". Could you please delete it from my posting. Much appreciated! Thanks! – Gary |

Dear Gary, Ever so sorry about that. I tried to submit my post, got a 'error message', tried to repost and somehow appeared on your post by mistake (which I had been enjoying reading earlier)!?! I've requested that the editors remove it as I can't delete myself. Apologies again. |

On the scale issue. I suspect it may be a perspective thing. You know: 'closer = bigger; farther = smaller' kind of thing ;). That said, you may have a point! The KV2s are possibly a bit short/BT7s a bit long. The T34's seem fine though. To be honest these Zvezda models are cheap at £3.00 GBP a pop (less if bought in multiples). I can put up with minor scaling inconsistencies as I would have these anyway if I mixed different manufacturers anyway. Here's another pic. Happy gaming!:

Hi Ostrowski, Thanks for making that request to TMP. It gives new meaning to "cross-posting" <grin>. Not to worry. Anyway it is nice to see another gamer that uses felt cutouts for woods! For me, the positives are movable tree stands so troop placements are not impeded, a clear demarcation for LOS/cover definition, and less expense. The negative is a more abstract portrayal of woods so less "real". So far the positives are winning! How do you like using them? Gary |

Hi Gary, Admittedly, the green felt can look a bit odd especially if there are not enough trees to cover it. Trees are not very rewarding to purchase I find and I need to go and buy a load more. The ones I have look very British and not European enough! That said, the felt does clearly delineate the wood which leads to fewer disagreements during games. |

Hi Ostrowski, I was facing exactly the same problem with way too few trees and the pre-made ones being pretty dear. So recently I went and bought a package of tree armatures by Woodland Scenics (28 Deciduous, 3-5", TR1122) and Medium Green Clump Foliage (FC683), glued on with Hob-E-Tac. I super-glued the bases to 1-3/8" O.D. metal washers for stability then finished the base. You can see the bare "winter" armatures in my Verkhne-Kumsky post. You can also get pine trees, like 70 of them (2-1/2-4", TR1124) but they look better in dark green. I'm happy with going this way since you get lots of trees and the cost per tree is way lower than pre-made. Just a thought… |
