Played Magnesia last year, but we've been aching for a rematch. Saturday finally saw it happen.

Still enjoying the rules, they really give all the different unit types flavor. Just need to play more often so that we'll have the rules down pat.

Temporary: I don't have the book with me ATM, however, I know that it's also designed for 15mm and to cover as broad spectrum of basing as possible to try to make it easy for players from other systems. If you'll tell me the mm size for DBA then I can look it up. They are nice rules. WGRabbit, I've not tried HC but I've just gotten CoE to go pretty smoothly, so I'm not keen to try other systems at this time. If you ever find yourself in the Atlanta area do contact us! The COE rules have 15mm basing outlined but comparison to DBx basing I couldn't tell you since never played DBx games. I have attached a scan of the COE basing page. Please note skirmishing and open order infantry can be based on 20mm x 20mm basing, like my armies, and the rules tell you how to reflect the different basing of 25mm x 25mm vs. 20mm x 20mm miniaturing basing and positioning on the tabletop. Players properly bow to the "Hail Caesar" book cover otherwise the gods of Caesar will torment you and your dice rolls. If you play other rules…. Caesar knows! |

Johnp4000, yes CoE works works well for big battles. Our battle above was 6500 points, but I've done battles about half that size that work well. The Heraclea battle (also on Mike's blog) was about 9K points and very big. 4000 is a nice number in CoE. If you know anything about it's parent ruleset (WAB) the units typically cost about 20% more than in WAB. |

Thanks Mars, I am a long time WAB player, but have decided to try something different,haven't been able to decide between War and Conquest and COE. Both seem to have good ideas and enough subtle differences to make them different to WAB. |
