I have sort of rediscovered these rules recently and they seem better than I remember. No more problems with basing a mass battles fantasy game around skirmish tactics. I also heard GW is restarting specialist games so who knows, they might have a new life. But my question is whether or not these were ever published as hardback, and if the annual books put out in 02 and 03 were just compilations of the magazine thus eliminating need to buy those specialized magazines. |

Well there was no hardback version of the rulebook – it was printed in softback from the off – but I don't remember whether the Annuals were reprints or all new material – I don't think they were compilations though. As Jim says someone on the specialist games forums will remember. I'd be very surprised if GW re-releases Warmaster though – they didn't much like it even back then and I had to fight tooth and nail to do it at all! |

Thank goodness you did, though, Rick! It's still one of my all-time favorites which we pull out and play fairly regularly. |

Ditto the above – considering it is the basis for a number of games I play. |

I'll throw my thanks in there as well. Warmaster is my favourite GW game still. |

The annuals were almost exclusively reprints of previous articles in the Warmaster magazine. I have about half of the warmaster articles in PDF from when GW made them available on their site for download. 93 in total. Plus an index of all of the Warmaster articles that I could find, including the original White Dwarf articles, & those from the later Fanatic magazine. If you have access to Dropbox & want to give me your email, I can get you hooked up with the articles. (BTW, I have the articles that GW made available for all of the Specialist Games if anyone wants them.) |

Yes, thank you Rick, for a most excellent game! |

I'm truly honored. Too bad these rules never took off but I find many gamers guilty of not being able to comprehend strategic rules instead of skirmishy type concepts. These were better I think than standard warhammer fantasy for so many reasons. We're going to try them in 28mm soon. I have found on scribd some updated or later released armies so that is a plus. I have also ordered both the annuals, but it seems very expensive to collect all the magazines. By the way how many issues were released for the magazine? Black Cavalier, my gmail is becker1372@gmail.com. I do have a dropbox. |

There were 21 magazines. Speaking of warmaster, check out these new wagons a friend is making TMP link |

ordinarygaming.blogspot.com And then there are the many counter sets I've made for all the Warmaster games. It's one of my favorite games, and plays well solo and with several people. Thanks, Rick! |

For those interested in the rules, darkagepress.com has pdfs here link The Living Rulebook has been cut and pasted to include all errata and updates. The alternate rules for Moving Chargers is also included. There is a Trial Armies book, includes Dogs of War, Witch Hunters, Ogre Kingdoms and an All Goblin army. The Warmaster Armies book is also cut and pasted with updates. There are two errors: unit size for Empire Skirmishers should be "+1", and armour for Vampire Counts Ethereal Hosts should be "6+". |

Thanks for this link. The living rulebook is in your opinion the best and most complete? Better than some "updates" available elsewhere? Also, the last section with rules summary from original book seems to have been clipped from this latest version. Also, is it possible to play with one page rules summary as original was longer? You've done a lot of work. |

None of this was my work. This came from the folks at Warmuster. link The pdf is based on the original from Games Workshop, which did not include parts of the original rulebook, such as the rules summary and the scenarios. It is the most complete one I have seen and includes not only Games Workshop's updates but also some updates from 2009 done by the Warmuster group, with a little help from Rick Priestley. |

If you want to use Warmaster for Historical Gaming as well, see Brumbaer's homepage brumbaer.de/old.html Ancientmaster predates Warmaster Ancients, and sticks to original Warmaster basing and rules, adding material for historical armies and unit types. Chariotmaster is a chariot racing game developed with Warmaster chariot miniatures in mind. |

A few more links for anyone stumbling across this. Warmaster Fanatic Articles: specialist-arms.com/fanatic All the official PDFs are up on the army selector I built: wm-selector.appspot.com The living rulebook was put together by a group down in Texas (at least one version of it was). I'm not sure what they used for it, as there were several versions of PDFs and errata over the years. Finally, if anyone's interested in playing in the New England area we have a growing WM community here. Feel free to PM here or on the Specialist Arms boards (I'm Dave there). |
