Here are some units that are to be included in the next fleet book written by myself and Emerald Coast Skunk Works. I am still in play testing so it won't be ready for a bit. Monitor: Slow, used to guard key FTL entry areas or beef up local defenses. NAC Monitor (Iron Wind Metals Agamemnon Heavy Cruiser):
Small combat base (Ravenstar gun platform):
Large Civilian System Defense ship (owned by system govt to augment the naval forces) – Brigade Models British battlecruiser:
Orbital transfer station (Ravenstar Jansen Research station):
Civilian orbital refueling platform (Ravenstar Zane refueling station):
Defense satellites (GZG hover drone body, Brigade Models British gun turret):
Small Orbital defense platform: (GZG UAV drone):
Battle Station (Ravenstar Raiden Station):

Thanks, Bill! I've some Ravenstar inbound, and lovely Brigade Models awaiting paint, but I shall have to 'return to the well' in each, as I think I'm missing your chosen designs. No real pain there! ;->= As if I would have anything ready in time for the 'release'… Large Civilian System Defense ship WIll they opt for FTL? Doug |

The Civilian system defense ships are basically going to be built during the latter days of the Kravak War, where many systems were kind of honked off that the national navies bailed out on them and retreated to Sol. So some of the systems (mainly FSE and NAC) converted civilian hulls into warships. They have no FTL, and use 5-row hulls. They pack a fairly hefty punch but tend to suffer more system degradation due to the 5-row hull. After the War, due to massive budget cuts, the NAC encouraged systems to build more to help shift the cost of system defense to the local systems. The FSE took a wait and see approach, but didn't discourage their construction. Some factions, like the ESU, no way would they allow their various systems to build such ships – it might give them ideas about getting uppity and rebelling after all. :) I am working on establishing some guidelines for players to help give the naval forces player a fair chance vs over-gunned sub-light warships – an even up CPV game pretty much always results in a sublight-only warship player win. I am testing a 15% point advantage for the naval player, as that is in the ballpark of the sort of reduction in hull size is possible if you yank out the FTL and reduce the support systems in size proportionally. |

Yepper, all sounds righteous to me, though I'm sure the NAC security folks are keeping watchful eye on the SDB's as well. I thought there was a one-off CPV adjustment to FTL/non-FTL engagements somewhere. Prolly usual delusion. Doug |

There was mention on Star Rangers FT resource page in the CPV section about counting FTL as cargo under CPV, but that doesn't take into account the true cost of the FTL. You need a larger hull, larger engines, larger screens (if any) on top of the 10% for the FTL drive. I calculated with a NAC BC, removing the FTL and leaving everything the same, CPV dropped 14% and change, and an ESU BC it was 16% and change. |

I know Jon is questioning FTL costs at all. For most games, except for the value of 'getting out of Dodge', no. But most players play forlorn hope. ;->= For multi-system campaign games, hell yes. Doug |
