Don't you hate it when somebody asks that question? Am I supposed to guess your likes? The scale of figures you like? I have passed through more projects, and sold and abandoned them, thsn most people here. I am now happily settled in on just three. 15mm Flames of War. "True 25mm" British colonials. And 25mm AWI. The only reason I wish I had some of the stuff I abandoned is so I could sell my Aztecs to the next guy who asks us what he wants to do next. Hey. I still have a ton of LOTR figures… I'm sure you'd love to have that be your next project. Most are painted! |

I don't know how we older gamers managed in the decades before the internet with no one to recommend to us the "best" rules", or the "best" figures", for any particular period. Or what name of "Brand X" color paint to use for such and such uniform… |
Cosmic Reset | 19 Feb 2016 7:01 p.m. PST |
No, I don't hate it. I usually suspect that the person is looking for options that they haven't considered. Maybe discover something that they weren't previously aware of, something like that. |
vtsaogames | 19 Feb 2016 7:03 p.m. PST |
3mm Albanian Succession wars. Never forget 312 BC! |
Chris Palmer | 19 Feb 2016 7:08 p.m. PST |
A generation that must have every decision made or validated by the internet, perhaps? |
Who asked this joker | 19 Feb 2016 7:28 p.m. PST |
Naw. I want to do what I want to do. The only thing I validate is if brand X is any good. Or what is the proper mix of piccolo players to bag pipers in the Slobovian Military band? |
Cosmic Reset | 19 Feb 2016 7:29 p.m. PST |
By the way, when I read the title of the post, my reply was going to be, "Your next project should be to build a giant mechanical war-chicken." Now you're probably wondering why I would suggest such a thing (or not, but I'll tell you anyway). Because, every army can use a giant mechanical war-chicken. A giant mechanical war-chicken will strike fear into any enemy. Imagine yourself as a figure on the table top. The giant mechanical war-chicken is unleashed, towering above you, armed with its giant mechanical pecker… I ask you, would you not run away? |
Winston Smith | 19 Feb 2016 7:29 p.m. PST |
Upper or Lower Slobbovia? Raoul I DGIOS |
Cosmic Reset | 19 Feb 2016 7:30 p.m. PST |
But, since that isn't where John… oops, I mean Winston, was going with this. I won't bother posting that. |
Cosmic Reset | 19 Feb 2016 7:32 p.m. PST |
And yes, I would run as far as my little base would carry me. Dragging the other guys glued to my stand if so burdened. |
Cosmic Reset | 19 Feb 2016 7:33 p.m. PST |
But I'm not going to bother posting that either. |
Extra Crispy | 19 Feb 2016 7:35 p.m. PST |
I think its a great quedtion. Maybe I never heard of the Great Paraguyan War… |
Leadjunky | 19 Feb 2016 7:58 p.m. PST |
I'm selling Russians. Maybe that should be your next project. |
Who asked this joker | 19 Feb 2016 8:21 p.m. PST |
Upper or Lower Slobbovia? Lower of course! Everyone knows that Upper Slobovian Military bands use trombones! |
Jamesonsafari | 19 Feb 2016 8:29 p.m. PST |
Or maybe they're just thinking out loud? |
RavenscraftCybernetics | 19 Feb 2016 8:32 p.m. PST |
lead the crusade to rid the world oh the Barret scale (foot to eye) measuring system. |
Weasel | 19 Feb 2016 8:46 p.m. PST |
Sometimes its fun to have a challenge. Chris – before the internet there was no getting the "best" figures because most of the orders were done by mail, no photos, just pick from a catalogue and hope that they looked sort of like human beings when they arrived in the mail :-) |
leidang | 19 Feb 2016 9:27 p.m. PST |
I'm having a blast lately painting up 28mm Fantasy stuff. Started doing it for Frostgrave but got bored with the rules pretty quickly. Now I can't stop painting the figs and don't have a ruleset I want to play… oh well, you have to go with what is fun. |
skippy0001 | 19 Feb 2016 9:43 p.m. PST |
AWI?…Space:1759+..(reverse Space 1889) Martians of the '89 civilisations decide to colonise North America. All you need are Elves with muskets. |
Pictors Studio | 19 Feb 2016 11:43 p.m. PST |
28mm Anglo-Sikh War. Read up on it if you are in doubt. It is probably one of the coolest periods out there and both sides are fun to play. |
Martin Rapier | 19 Feb 2016 11:50 p.m. PST |
One thing I really can't stand is people suggesting things "I might like". Now get off my lawn. Harumph. |

Well, back in the day I used to get Wargamer's Digest, and that spawned a number of projects, both from articles and ads. Upon becoming serious again around 1987, MWAN served much the same function. Magazines were like the Internet, just slower… |
FusilierDan | 20 Feb 2016 5:44 a.m. PST |
China, Ming Dynasty, Big Armies, Skirmish/role playing Color, Kung Fu lot's of movies to watch. link |

nnascati | 20 Feb 2016 7:52 a.m. PST |
Winston, I suggest SciFi ground combat using Dreamforge troopers. It just so happens I have them for sale in the Marketplace. :) |

I don't know how we older gamers managed in the decades before the internet with no one to recommend to us the "best" rules", or the "best" figures", for any particular period. But before the internet, there was 90% less of the choices to fret over, and you might dwell in blissful ignorance of a good half of those! |
Winston Smith | 20 Feb 2016 11:49 a.m. PST |
That's what Wargames Illustrated was for. The ads. |
The Beast Rampant | 21 Feb 2016 5:17 p.m. PST |
I drooled over many a Foundry ad in the late 90's. |
