As I mentioned recently ( TMP link ), I have been using Force on Force with some add-ons taken from I Ain't Been Shot Mum and elsewhere. I go into more details at my blog post, but I have played a lot of WW2 rules, and I find that the more games I play, the less patience I have for I-go-you-go rules. I get so very bored waiting half an hour or more for my opponent to shuffle through his or her turn. With Force On Force (and Operation Squad and Nuts, though I didn't like Nuts at all), both players are fully engaged the whole time, making hard decisions and reacting to what their opponent is doing. All of these rules have no need of opportunity fire mechanics, because the ability to react to what's going on is built into the mechanics at the bottom level. |

So many really excellent games out there. Out of the ones I've actually played these would be my most enjoyable: Skirmish: TW&T Chain of Command 5 Men in Normandy (Small Skirmish) Bolt Action Larger Scale: IABSM (I Ain't Been Shot Mum) Crossfire Fireball Forward Battlegroup Normandy Problem I find with nominating a favorite is that I really appreciate and enjoy particular mechanics in various systems. If I was to declare my absolute favorite It would be have to be between Chain of Command and Crossfire If pushed I think my all time favorite would be have to be Crossfire which is surprising since I actually view it as an almost unfinished game :0 The spotting rules are inadequate. The Armor rules are weak. But the rest is a work of genius :) In my opinion of course ;) |

I think it depends on the level you are playing at: Platoon: Chain of Command Company: I Ain't Been Shot, Mum Battalion +: Once would have been Command Decision. Now, I don't know. I have Panzer Korps, but have never tried them. That level of game seems to be better in 6mm. One of the fellows in our local gaming group has a homebrewed set of rules for this level that are pretty enjoyable. BWW |
