Great looking units on really nice bases! I would, however, use these as imperial block, as the flag with the flamed cross, the Burgundercross, is an imperial symbol that would never be shown in the French army. It was introduced by the dukes of Burgund. When Maximilian wed the only daughter of Charles the bold it came into use for the Habsburgers, and when their grandson (Max and Maria) Charles, then duke of Burgund and via his father the fresh king of Spain became Emperor in 1519 it became the typical symbol for both the crown of Spain and the Empire. The black/white flag is reminiscent of the Reichsrennfahne anyway, the flag born often by Frundsberg when he was leading the Imperial Landsknechts. Luckily their is no difference between the Landsknechts fighting for France and the Empire, so this unit can simply swap its allegiance :-) |
