A generation since mighty Persia learned a lesson, humbled by the fractious city states of Greece under the leadership of the army of Sparta and the navy of Athens. Turned back and defeated, it no longer attempts to extend its power over the tumultuous peninsula of the Peloponnese. Without an external enemy, the city states of Greece went back to their traditional pursuits -- philosophy, looking down on non-Greeks, and making war upon neighboring city-states. Athens and Sparta created networks of alliances that gradually, inexorably, moved them towards terrible war. For this campaign they all fight as "Heavy Foot – HFt" -- +4 vs. foot, +3 vs. mounted, all combat results as if Blade. All mounted in this period fought with javelins and no shields. I hope there is an opportunity during the convention where I can learn the game. Something I've always wanted to try. |
YogiBearMinis | 17 Feb 2016 11:37 a.m. PST |
I am sad to see that the edition wars continue. When will the HMGS crew switch to the current, 3.0, edition of the ruleset? |
Dervel | 17 Feb 2016 2:07 p.m. PST |
Strange question, When are all the DBM players going to switch to DBMM or all HOTT players switching to D3H2, or how about this one, when are all the guys playing 3.0 going to switch to ADLG? |
aynsley683 | 17 Feb 2016 2:30 p.m. PST |
Yogibearsminis, Do you ever go to any HMGS events and does it really matter that much what people want to play? Sad to see some people always see the glass half empty. |
aynsley683 | 17 Feb 2016 3:17 p.m. PST |
Dervel, Does the sad state of affairs mean people playing 6th, 7th and warrior have to move on as well? Or what about FOG players, as all those here changed over to ADLG, no one said that was a rules war. Oh by the way I am painting up a DBA 2.2+ army (half done ) for you to give away as a prize, the figures finally came through hence the delay ( sorry about that ). |

link YogiBearMinis: Come & game with us. We're having a 16 player 15mm DBA 3.0 open tourament at HMGS Little Wars. We'll be at a new, improved venue & hotel. Will post more when the PEL is posted. 2 other friends are running CCA & ADGL tournaments as well on different days or times. |

There is another posting on DBA 3.0 versus 2.2+. Rather than start up a heated discussion in this post, better to take this debate there. This post is nothing more than information on a gaming event. Makes more sense to me to keep discussion on that topic. If one wants to enter the argument of one version versus another , they can just go to the post with the debate announced on posting title. |
Dervel | 17 Feb 2016 4:26 p.m. PST |
Excellent point Diocletian |
miniMo | 17 Feb 2016 5:33 p.m. PST |
And as always, an open call went out for folks to run whatever events they would like to host. |
Sysiphus | 17 Feb 2016 5:36 p.m. PST |
So, it is in fact; a single "species" 2.2+ event at all levels. |
Khusrau | 17 Feb 2016 6:54 p.m. PST |
and every single event has 'special' rules. Why? |
Dave Schlanger | 17 Feb 2016 7:09 p.m. PST |
Running DBA 3.0 events is a simple thing. All it takes is a person interested in running 3.0 at the convention. If you are interested in DBA, I suggest you sign up on fanaticus.org and get involved there and participate in the discussion of events for the big three Cons. It basically comes down to GM's. GM's run the games they want to run. GM's use special rules if they want to use special rules. GM's are spending their time running and planning events, so the GM's get to do what they want to do. I will support the GM's the best I can within that framework to help them put on an enjoyable event. DS |

Dervel, i'm glad that you understand and have communicated well the reason that I run DBA three events which are official Phil Barker DBA events independent of the DBA events that consist of rules using line edits that the author does not like. No one should have to switch from One game to another. I think historicon is open to GM's putting on any event they want. No need to mix them up. DBA 3 is as different from Phil Barker's previous edition, 2.2 as DBMM is from DBM . Every game has its own coordinator and venue. At Historicon I will be running DBA three events. |
Dervel | 18 Feb 2016 1:39 p.m. PST |
Bob, my comment above was simply a response to what seemed like a ridiculous question. YogiBearMinis was essentially coming on to a thread about one version of a game and asking why they don't play something else. I hope you recognized that my comments about anyone switching games was made to point out how ridiculous the question was in the first place? I thought the wording was clear. To me it is no different than a Chain of Command fan barging into a thread about a Bolt Action tournament and asking them when they were going to stop playing Bolt Action. People are certainly free to play whatever they want and people are certainly free to debate the different merits of their favorite game version and there are plenty of threads on here where they do… But coming onto to David's announcement and basically complaining about what people are playing at a convention is simply ridiculous. You have made it very clear before that your events are apparently some sort of "Official Phil Barker" events as you are calling them and therefore cannot be associated, coordinated or geographically close to any other forms or previous versions of DBA. You are certainly free to choose this path if that is how you wish to handle promoting DBA 3.0 Cold Wars, Fall In and Historicon are all open to any GM putting on games and it is their choice what they want to run. And as far as I can see there are no DBA 3.0 events planned for Cold Wars unless they are being posted somewhere besides TMP or Fanaticus. |
Larry R | 19 Feb 2016 6:01 a.m. PST |
Geesh, maybe I don't want to learn DBx |
Dervel | 19 Feb 2016 8:34 a.m. PST |
Larry, there is nothing wrong with the game…. Just some of us players. If you come to any DBA event you will find people willing to teach you the game regardless of the version they play. We usually have a few walk up players and all of us are more than happy to teach the game. Just be aware, 3.0 is the latest iteration of DBA, and I don't think anyone is playing it at Cold Wars this year. We are playing a modified version of 2.2. Which we enjoy, but apparently it really bugs a few people for some unknown reason. If you want to try 3.0 then historicon is probably your best bet on the East coast. |

Thanks Dervel, maybe I will do a walk up on Saturday. |
Dervel | 19 Feb 2016 12:11 p.m. PST |
For a quick event, try the 25mm or Joe's event… I should have an extra army for Joe's session. If you want a real fun time the campaign is always a blast! A slightly longer time frame but always a good time. |
