Hello ive got my first order of all sorts of 3mm goodies from pico Armour coming in this week but i was kinda curious on if there is a guide anywhere or tips on how i should go about basing my force. I plan to use them with the five core games as they seem too fun and easy to pick up to not try out but i also want to try fistful of tows down the road because after reading a bunch of battle reports on the tiny tanks blog i really want to try it. So im trying to figure out how i should base (like how many tanks on a stand and such)

3mm is the bomb :-)

I only put 2 tanks on my stands but I wish I had made them wider and put 3.
That way, for games like FFT, it'd be 1 to 1 scale.

A lot of people doing Fivecore brigade commander take two stands built for Command decision/spearhead/fft and put them next to each other, to form one fivecore stand.

So 3 to a stand is gonna be a good number to go with for most systems? Also great games. I've picked probably about half of what you offer on war game vault in the past week

I use 3 per stand for Brigade Commander, and they can double as platoons. I use 1.5" squares. You can see them at:

i saw your blog i was really curious how you went about getting the info on the bases. it looks really well done.

Aw, thanks mate :-)

I'm glad you dig and I appreciate you keeping me housed and fed :)

I'd go with 3, since most games use platoon stands and that way it's 1-to-1 scale.

That also makes the stands really cheap to build.

For mechanized infantry, I stick a few infantry figure in front of the BMPs or whatever, so they are easy to tell apart from tank units.

@Weasel No Problem thanks for putting out solid rules.

I base them at 1:1, which means stands have between 3-5 tanks on them. Looks great when you have a Tank Regiment all lined up.

I am using Flames of War medium bases for my tank platoons (2" x 1.25" from Litko). The vehicles look too close together on anything with a smaller frontage, in my opinion.

I do think 1.5" to 2" is about perfect for a tank platoon in 3mm.

i got a bunch of 2in by 1in bases i think im gonna try out and i'll be getting a bunch of 1in by 1in soon too
