As promised, here is the recently completed volunteer unit I mentioned in my previous post.

These started life as Perry British Intervention Force 26, British Infantry in Straw Hats.

picture

I converted them by turning the hat brim up on one side and fabricating a feather out of lead foil, which I then filled out and stiffened with some J and B liquid weld.

These were inspired by the sharpshooters of Bracklow's Volunteers in the 1st Schleswig Holstein War and the German Legion of the Hungarian Revolt They are close but not exact, and are intended to serve as any one of a number of jaunty volunteers in the era:

Fabulous. I really like the idea and your conversions. And one already has the revolutionary full beard.

Lovely looking figures, may I ask what basing size and rules will you adopt

Shipka,

I am working on a set of stand-based rules that will have two bases per unit (in order to allow some basic posture and formation things), so the number of figures won't matter. However, one idea behind what I'm doing is that to be able to use the figures for other systems.

As far as the basing convention, I went with base sizes that could easily hold three 28mm figures (for infantry) with a bit of dispersion between them: "2.5 x 2". For guards, I will mount four infantry per stand so that they stand out. I also put a strip of metal on the back so that I can affix magnetized information markers.

I intend to put cavalry (two per base) on slightly deeper stands (depending on the figure size): "2.5" x 2.5". Cavalry will also be two stands per unit.

Guns will probably go on cavalry sized stands (to accommodate the size of the gun models). Unlike cavalry and infantry, though, an artillery unit will only be one stand.

Having said all of the above, the basing I'm using should easily give you enough stands to play any number of the DBX 19th Century variants (Kepis Rouge, for instance). You can find a list of those here:

Also, this system should work with the half scale version of Bruce Weigel's 1859, which I own.

Using each stand by itself, these would also work with Volley and Bayonet (2/3 scale).

Best,
Ed
