Across periods, do you tend to play the same nation, if available? Obviously easier for things like Germans and Russians, harder for Paraguay or Micronesia. A: Yes, I always play xxx (elaborate in comments) B: I generally play xxx but I make some exceptions C: I play xxx about half the periods I play D: I play something different each time |

I play a lot of conflicts Britain is involved in but I don't always play the British in them. I prefer to play the Sikhs in the Anglo Sikh war and the Zulus in the Anglo Zulu war for example. I prefer the Isabellinos to the Carlists in the Carlist war but if I'm doing a game with BAL I would be just as happy to play Spanish Isabellino troops as British ones. |

Yes, B: Germans. From hairy and shirtless to mustachioed and clad in Prussian Blue (or cornflower, or pike grey, etc). Though pickelhaube are also nice. |

I will play any side and often it will be to balance the side either through number of players or experience with the rules or period. I do have some sides in some conflicts I will avoid if given the option due to personal preference but even then, if it balances the game, I will play whatever side works best for all of us. |

D. In order to be completely fair, my regular opponent and I always switch sides after every game and play again next time we meet. We are competitive and therefor like to win. Some rules/scenarios are unbalanced and favor a particular nation. I know historically battles are not fair; but games should be. |

A even playing in solo games I find myself only playing one side. |
Grelber | 15 Feb 2016 2:29 p.m. PST |
B I like Greeks, and have Hoplites, (unpainted) Mycenaeans, Byzantines, late 1700s, 1897 and WWII. I'd like to add the Balkan Wars, Greek War of Independence, and 15th Century Byzantines, but we'll see. Grelber |

B – I usually play the Barbarians in Ancients primarily because no one else wants to, and I try to always play the Austrians or French in SYW or the Austrians in Napoleonics – in fact, despite having a large Prussian army for SYW I don't think I have ever played the Prussians The exceptions are ACW and WWII – I play pretty much either side |
vtsaogames | 15 Feb 2016 4:04 p.m. PST |
In my current Franco-Prussian campaign I will play the French. Aside from that I play whatever. |
Cosmic Reset | 15 Feb 2016 4:18 p.m. PST |
D. More or less. I play anybody in colonials, French in WWII, Vietnamese in Vietnam, Buckeyes in the war against wolverines, Soviets in Afghanistan, US in WWIII, Romulans in Star Trek. |

If I was told I could only play one nationality forever, I probably would have easy decisions, but I have multiple nationalities in all the periods I play and honestly enjoy them all for their uniqueness. So I'm closest to "D". |
Leadjunky | 15 Feb 2016 7:13 p.m. PST |
I try to play the side that has the least chance of victory. That way if I lose it was expected, but if I win, well it was my fine generalship and expert handling of the troop dispositions, etc… |
Narratio | 15 Feb 2016 8:02 p.m. PST |
Although a Brit, I never play them. I usually play Russian from the invention of gunpowder onwards, ancient is Greek city state, otherwise… nope. There is no otherwise. |
Mute Bystander | 15 Feb 2016 8:08 p.m. PST |
Make it plural and "Yes." American Indians, Spanish, Americans, French, these top the list. Zulus, (Asian) Indians, South American Indians next tier. Anybody fighting English/British or Japanese. If the game is East Front WW2 then Russians/Soviets, but don't really like either of the two. |

I'll play any and everyone, although in my collection I have a preference for periods where British troops were involved. As we have been at war with almost everyone, that doesn't narrow it down too much… |
Doctor X | 16 Feb 2016 12:19 a.m. PST |
I will play any side. Doesn't matter to me. I don't have any favorites or biases. |

I am always drawn to Scots -- but typically, I can have fun playing anybody and I tend to let others have their picks first, those who really have strong druthers, and then take whatever's left over, unless I have something in mind for someone in particular that I'm aching to try out. |
Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut | 16 Feb 2016 12:37 a.m. PST |
I seem to be leaning towards a few armies in multiple periods… Italians for Colonial, and have done them in WWII; Japanese Colonial and earlier Samurai; Mexicans in 1500AD and Wild West; British for Ancients and Weird War II; Amazons whereever I can find period-specific figures… |

Most of my collection involves wars Britain has hosted (Age of Arthur, Viking raids, ECW) or been involved in, and I always prefer to play the British side on land, sea or air. Fortunately my regular opponents know this and indulge me when they put on games. However I am slowly working on a Vietnam project, so there is an exception and I would probably see myself as a B+\A- kind of guy. |
