I had the first sunny day since last October, so decided to photograph some of my recently-painted 15mm Cold War stuff:

picture

Centurion AVRE 165 by QRF

picture

Chieftain AVLB by QRF. This is quite a beast!

picture

Chieftain AVLB with the bridge loaded.

picture

CVR(T) Spartan APC by QRF.

picture

Ferret armoured car by QRF (I forget which mark, sorry).

picture

The open-topped Ferret variant (again, I forget which mark).

picture

FV-180 Combat Engineer Tractor by QRF. Again, quite a beast of a vehicle and a tricky kit to put together, though it looks brilliant (note: the scoop is at the BACK of the vehicle).

picture

M113G for my West Germans. I used the Flames of War plastic kit for these, though replaced the .50 Cals with spare MG42s (The post-war 7.62mm MG3 is identical). Strictly speaking, these should have an array of smoke-grenade dischargers on the front. but they'll do. I also fitted one with a MILAN launcher that I had spare from a QRF Marder IFV kit.

picture

T-64A by QRF. I've got over 20 of these bad boys.

picture

T-64B by QRF. I've mixed a few of these in with my T-64As.

picture

MTU-55 AVLB by QRF. Another bit of combat engineering beastliness.

picture

BMP PRP-3 artillery radar recce vehicle by Skytrex – a beautiful model.

Cheers Kenneth,

It looks ok to me. They aren't very big tanks compared to Western models. Here's a good photo for scaling:

Here's a shot with someone standing right next to it for scale

He's slightly further back but looks like the head of an upright person should reach about the middle side of the turret.

Looking splendid,

Tally Ho!

Mako1115 Feb 2016 2:03 p.m. PST

Thanks for sharing.

Great pics!

Based upon the young man standing on the turret, it appears that the upper portion of the treads on the T-64 are only about 3' off the ground, so its hull has a very low profile.

Lovely work (as always!). What do you use for your base color for the Soviet vehicles? Thanks.

Jemima Fawr15 Feb 2016 3:41 p.m. PST

Cheers chaps!

PzCDR,

After a black undercoat, I do a base coat of Humbrol 75 (Bronze Green) and then a top coat of Humbrol 150 (Forest Green). Final weathering drybrush of Humbrol 72 (Khaki Drill).

Great stuff, thanks for sharing the pix. Love the AVLBs, got to get me some of those beasts.

Jemima Fawr15 Feb 2016 4:47 p.m. PST

Cheers Irish,

It took a fair bit of head-scratching, a lot of photos of the real things, a drill, some brass-wire and some bits of dressmaker's ribbon to stick them together… My plan is to get another pair and then do a step-by-step set of instructions for the things, to save others the pain of having to work it out!

The CET was no easybuild either… :(

My apologies for not cracking on with what we last talked about (I can't reply to your PM, as my free TMP membership has expired). I've been up to my eyeballs in other stuff. However, I will crack on with the project asap.

panzerCDR16 Feb 2016 1:56 p.m. PST

Jemima Fawr,

Thanks. I will try those out on a couple of PT-76s I have (Old Glory/Skytrex I think . . . ). Good to experiment with to be sure.

A couple more:

The CET seen from the other end. I love this beastie:

The whole unit of M113Gs. The second one from the left has a MILAN launcher mounted on the cupola:

M113G for my West Germans…Strictly speaking, these should have an array of smoke-grenade dischargers on the front.

I'm sure Chas made that conversion. I'll check – we have a few things disappeared off the website in the latest update(?!)

Jemima Fawr17 Feb 2016 7:30 a.m. PST

Yes, I think he has, but I already had these done. :)

czfq2b02 May 2016 1:02 p.m. PST

Having trouble putting together the MTU-55, many parts I do not know where they go. I have written QRF and TSS to no avail. Just can't tell based on the picture above or actual pictures of the real vehicle, how the pieces go together.

Cliff,

QRF asked me for photos the other day, which I've sent – I'm pretty sure it was in response to your request.

Here's the photos:

I use pieces of dressmakers' ribbon for the hinge. You can see how that works on the Chieftain AVLB above.

Mako1104 May 2016 2:38 a.m. PST

M113Gs would be great, as would separate smoke discharger detail sets for converting other M113s to the German model(s).

Geoff, any word on the upcoming releases, e.g. S-Tank, PBV, M114, MBT-70 (had to throw that one in, of course – mustn't let you run out of ideas for "new" kit), etc., etc.?

Jemima Fawr:
Lovely miniatures and great tips for assembly Jemima! Well done and thanks for posting the photos.
Cheers and good gaming.
Rod Robertson.

GeoffQRF05 May 2016 4:06 p.m. PST

I am sure we did the M113G…. I will have to get Chas to check.

Great photos which I forwarded on to Cliff. I will get them added to the website, thanks!

Jemima Fawr06 May 2016 6:21 a.m. PST

Cheers. I'll do a proper construction guide for the MTU when I do a second one. It was a bit of trial and error and I did get one bit wrong, in that I glued the 'H-Frame' piece in place, when I should have left it un-glued so that it hinged freely (I then broke it off while trying to unstick it).
