Positively the last pictures of these Mamelukes (unless of course Gringo40s add to the range………) Not quite sure why a band of peaceful musicians should be riding on a cobbled street behind a warlike bunch in a wheat field. The Russian flag is over 40 years old…a chance finding amongst some old 25mm stuff from early 70s. Certainly not GMB standard (in any sense of the word) The only conversion work here was a right arm swap for some. Again I would say how great it is to have that right arm separate. Marvellous conversion potential. The three French mamelukes are "straight from the box", as are the officer and his bugler. The five charging used spares from my scrap box (I think Perry Russian dragoons) and the falling chap donated up his pistol hand (really nice casting that) for a plastic open hand

Last of the Mamelukes, is a great movie with a great sound track! ;) Fantastic looking stuff! |

Really quite beautiful! I wish the Mameluke tug standards and the "Jingling Johnny" were available separately -- they look like they could work quite nicely with my 54mm Italeri Mamelukes. |

Well the arms for the tougs are not attached, if you did buy the figures. But Osprey thinks they were 2.70 metres tall. If 54 mm is truly 1/32 scale, I think you need something 8.4 cms. The Gringos are 5.5cms (very slightly too tall if you think 28mm is 1/56…should be 4.8 cms….but no one agrees on what is 28mm. The tougs look right against the many many pictures I have downloaded. The Jingling Johnny is a marvellous casting, but I would concede that it is a bit too large…or maybe tall instead? He must be a tough lad to carry that!

I'm not too sure that Napoleon did! Was there not just two squadrons, at best? |

some superb work here Deadhead ……I may well "borrow" some of your artwork for my site as I know you do not mind as you have achieved something quite special with the background alone. The Mamelukes never went beyond a large squadron and there was fierce competition to join this illustrious unit even if many of the troops would speak with a heavy Parisian accent……..they continue to fascinate..i stumbled across them in the book "The Anatomy of Glory by Henry Lachouque ) and AnNE s k Brown a must read for a man of your ilk! en avant!! (many years ago) best regards Ged gringo40s.com gringo40s.blogspot.com |

Anatomy of Glory…two copies….one I loaned out and never got back. The other is at the end of my bookshelf now…it props up all the other books!
Yer right, too, I now read…….. only "one squadron"….but massive for that designation. Even Old and Young Guard I gather……

Beautiful work all round, from the colourful uniforms to the flattened wheat field. The care and workmanship is a true credit to you. I think they would take pride of place in anyone's collection. |

Yeah I know…I bought some Perry plastic Mahdist infantry (Half price in a local store and could not resist). Wanted them for the bare arms and legs, even torso in some cases. "After the battle" diorama was the idea, with much amputation and swapping of limbs. But then I looked again…early mamelukes. Much chopping of your lads and………….AAAARGH! It is addictive |

…early Mamelukes…theres a thing!…………sumptuous dress and even more weaponary……. cheers Ged gringo40s.com |

To put it all in perspective…if you want to see real talent. See what Perfect Six made of his Mamelukes, but in 6mm not 28mmscale. For example look at the stripes on the turban, or the fringe on the shabraque……..mind you…no earrings on his! link Now, much thought going into converting more Mamelukes to Austerlitz early rig….can be done! But it will drive me mad and the long suffering wife to the law courts I fear…… |

wow these 6 mm Mamelukes – incredible |
jammy four | 21 Feb 2016 4:39 a.m. PST |
some serious detail paint wise on those 6mm and all on greys.. Austerlitz …you could always do the capture of the Russian flag by the Mameluke in the famous David painting cheers Ged gringo40s.com |

I have spent the last hours trying to find Russian Chevalier Guard cavalry…….maybe Perry Russian dragoons, (with an extra cross belt and a wool crest on helmet) but horse saddlery wrong. Nearest I can find is Prussian Cuirassiers' steeds. One pistol holster, only, is rare. Perry Russian generals' horses would be ideal…but looks like one-piece casting |

Thanks both of you. I have been chasing this much of the day and it is so disappointing. Brigade Miniatures are probably wonderful figures, but much of the range has a blank "No image available". No problem, I can see the command set for dragoons and whatever Victrix produced, Paul Hicks' sculptures…brilliant, obviously. Might still need a horse swap for the Chevalier Guard 1805…fine! But no UK stockist. North Star imports a limited range, but nothing really for our interests. The snag is not the postage. I'll live with that. It is that the import duty (non EU) has not been paid. OK, if I want them badly enough, I'll pay that. But I cannot, at that stage, when ordering. So our post office system refuses to deliver and I must go to the nearest sorting office. OK, I pay the duty, but then also a punishment fee to the postal service for their admin (about £8.00 GBP last time) with long delays. My Garde du Corps figures, from OZ, doubled in cost by the time they got to me……..postage, import duty, postal handling fee ……OK they were worth every penny. So were my Altama desert boots…same problem though. I have today read several messages from Victrix on TMP, assuring us that selling off their metals was so good for us all and that they would still be available in UK from their website. Guess what……….? "Once the transfer of moulds is complete and production has commenced Victrix plan (sic) to continue to sell this range of Napoleonic metal figures direct from the Victrix website." but that was some years ago……. |
