Hi guys

A bit of a mixed bag here today, all 15mm, firstly the 28th Orange-Nassau Regt, some French foot artillery, the 2nd French Dragoons and some French command, Ney and others, all but the Dragoons are ABs, not sure who make the Dragoons, they are OK, but not a patch on ABs.

Gunner, lovely looking stuff again from you. The AB sculpts never cease to amaze and you seem to be able to maximise the life and reality about them.

Can't imagine why anyone would ever choose a non AB figure if an AB sculpt is available. The real cost is in the painting time not the capital outlay for the figure. And they're metal not paper, they're not a consumable item. Buy them once paint them once and you've got them forever. I have French and Austrian infantry that have been fighting each other across my battlefields for 25+ years now!

I see what you mean about the dragoons – horses are odd compared to AB horses which are truly superb and the riders look all hunched over. Each to his own I suppose.

Well done mate.

Nice dan , i think the dragoons maybe campaign game miniatures sculpts

Very nice painting. My only slight niggle is that 'Bay' horses also have dark lower legs. I assume this is WIP and still to be done. Otherwise great work again. I really like your lefebvre & Ney figures.
I totally agree with the comments about buying Ab figures. Buy the best figures. Poorly sculpted figures are usually more difficult to paint (vague detail is awful to paint). Paint them to the best of your ability as you will only paint them once and then you have them for everyone to enjoy.
Look forward to seeing more…

Very nice!!

The figures in the first photo: the drummer and the figures to his right (our left) in the front row look like CGM to me and not AB.

I can't understand why anybody would do Napoleonics and not choose AB! The best wargaming figures of all IMHO. YMMV. I know people say they are expensive but you don't have to buy them all at once and spread over the years that they take to paint the difference in cost surely can't be noticed?

thanks guys, I can't complain, I've got tonnes of none AB in my collection to, mostly old glory, used to buy bags of 100 for $20 USD if I can recall correctly.

nsolomon99: I agree with you, ABs are gorgeous. My only issue with them is trying to make them fit in with my other, older figures. I don't want to start over as my collection is rather extensive, (not compared to some here I am sure). I recently finished a regt. of French chasseurs a cheval with ABs and even my paint jobs seem presentable to me, on them. In a perfect world "scale creep" would not be an issue I guess. Thanks, John Miller

I really like your painting style. The black lining is very neat and very subtle. Do you prime black ?

I am still trying to figure out a style for 15mm Napoleonic that works for me – would appreciate any advice you might have on how you figured out the best approach for you.

Thanks

John

Hi Jwebster – this may not help, I prime black, white or the main colour of the uniform, depending on what my objectives are, what type of uniform they have and how many figures I'm doing.
For instance,
1) display figures are generally undercoated white, to make the colours stand out, depth is created with washes.
2) wargaming figures are generally black because it is a lot more forgiving if you miss little areas, and it helps with shadowing, a lot less washes are needed.
3) sometimes I have a lot of figures in a uniform that is mostly one colour (doing Poles at the moment, they have blue pants and jackets) its a lot quicker to undercoat in blue.
I would suggest black for you self, its a good quick all rounder, the above were all done in black.
