If a tank is moving and takes a hit, it makes sense that the crew would know if they've lost a track or otherwise lost mobility. But if a tank is stationary, the crew doesn't know until they attempt to move, correct? |

They may suspect it, since they'd feel the effects and general location of the hit. |

Yeah, I'd say there's a possibility they'd know or at least guess: "&@&$! I think that hit the treads, Sarge!" Maybe there's a tanker here who could better advise. I'd suspect there'd be procedures to check for damage (outside of "get out and look around") in the event of a hit. |

That "driver-advance" was the critical moment. It was always the same after a slugging match with the enemy; that frantic second of time when you did not know if the tank would move or not… Brazen Chariots, p.57 |

I am guessing that as soon as a vehicle is hit …. And survives ….. It attempts to start moving, to avoid the almost certain second hit, so if the crew don't know they have a track problem at the time of the strike, they will within a few moments. |

Loss of mobility can come from tread or road wheel hits but also can result from other locations. Clearly an engine compartment hit will freeze a tank. Another location is the driving ver compartment with damage to controls or an injury to the driver. |
