In my opinion Aventine Miniatures do a wonderful range of Phalangites. Cheers |

I'd go with Aventine, Simon put me on to them and I'm very pleased he did. |

I think that Aventine has this one down. Others are good too, but I do like Aventine's Pyrrhic selection. Victrix is coming out with some nice sculpts, but not as dynamic in poses as their other ranges (e.g.,Spanish, Samnites), but that has to do with their decision to make all upright sarrissai. |

Feel the love, Aventine. Oddly enough I don;'t have any Aventines, because my collection pre-dates the release of their range. All mine are Foundry World of the Greeks and the similar Polemarch Successors. Also super ranges. |

I understand that many people like dynamic poses, especially for figures used in skirmish games. But it has never been clear to me why anyone would want a dynamic pose for a pikeman. My concern with Victrix is that four will not fit on a 60mm DBx base. Each to his own. BTW, I assume we are talking about pikemen. Phalanx is a formation, not a weapon. Greek hoplites fought in phalanx. |

I love the Foundry phalangites. Beautifully sculpted, nicely posed, good variety. |

I still miss my Hinchliffe Successor pikes -all the pikes bent up to 45 degrees and more as they were moulded to be held horizontally.. They disappeared in a house move 15 years ago… Still moving on -I have Foundry and very good they are. I will get some Aventine as they look the best yet. |
Gunfreak | 11 Feb 2016 9:39 a.m. PST |
I to go with aventine, but have hopes for victrix! |
Lord Elpass | 11 Feb 2016 10:44 a.m. PST |
For a long time it was Foundry but now I'd go with Aventine. Their sculpts are quite exquisite. |

I have a wide range of phalangites – Polemarch, Empire, Foundry, Crusader, Vendel, Hinchliffe and even 'horizontal' Minifig. Like Gunfreak I would certainly go with Aventine (yet to be painted) and am very tempted by the phalangites with pants that Victrix has promised. |

Another vote for Foundry & Polemarch, the Crusader Miniatures phalangites aren't bad either. |

I have Old Glory hoplites, but really like the Aventine figures. |
Scarab Miniatures | 11 Feb 2016 2:19 p.m. PST |
Whilst I would be biased :) – I like our own Scarab Miniatures Greek and Spartan Hoplite miniatures here link Theres a few pictures of them in action alongside Foundry here link If we are talking phalangites then Polemarch, Aventine and Foundry work for me but don't forget the 1st Corps Successor range, they are good as well, I have successfully(?!!?) lost several games of War & Conquest against them! kind regards Rob Broom scarabminiatures.com warandconquest.co.uk |

Victrix, a phalange does not look that dynamic, more a Macedonian/Greek tank. And …. it's plastic you know, weight …. |
TKindred | 12 Feb 2016 5:56 a.m. PST |
Odd man out, I suppose. The majority of my Macedonian and Successor units are a combination of Essex, RAFM and Ral Partha. They work well together and when you add the lovely North Star pikes, and LBMS shield transfers, they do look pretty nice. I will say, though, that I am using 1st Corps for the Hypaspists as they have a really nice look to them. |

I'm glad that dissenters have piped up here because, truly, there are quite a number lovely phalangites from which to choose. |

TKindred | 13 Feb 2016 5:22 a.m. PST |
Mike: Same here. I only have images of your minis. I've been waiting to purchase from you until I've whittled the lead pile down a mite. |
BigRedBat | 14 Feb 2016 3:36 a.m. PST |
RelliK Mike's embossed shields are certainly the nicest out there! |

There are many many nice phalangites out there nowadays. I wish I had to time to finish all the groups I have in my bin. I would say I like Aventine first, Polemarch, then Foundry, then some of Relic's figures. All of those make a great phalanx. Old Glory figures can be crude but look great in units and have the angled pikes that look cool even if somewhat impractical to carry on an airplane. Warlord's plastics are really good, but you have to replace the pikes they are far too brittle for gaming. I have some in progress and the pikes break while painting. Victrix make great hoplites and I'm sure their plastic phalangites will be top notch. 1st Corps have an extensive range of Successors-- some of their more unusual offerings can add flavor to your phalanx armies-- however stay away from the tympani drums. Some of their figures are a bit smaller than heroic 28mm scales mentioned above… but if you want a cool Ptolemaic machimoi phalanx-- that's the place to go. Crusader miniatures also offer a nice clean batch of phalangites with upright pikes…. they paint up very well. I'm sure I have left off a few…. I have so many I have no more room in my shoe… Here is a sample of a few I have in the works…

One thing I did not note on my figures above… the Macedonian crescent and star symbol was created on my home printer. I used decal paper you can buy online. Made my own design in Photoshop smart objects and then printed them out at 300 dpi. This batch turned out especially nice. Of course I still like to hand paint some as you can see… but those crazy Macedonian ones deserve relief or transfers. Victrix hoplite with Phrygian helmet makes a great hypaspist now--- and you can add your own shield straps to make them phalangites if you cannot wait. link |

JJ….. hmmm…. sorry about that. Lemme see what I can do. |
