does anybody knows of an active manufacture of epic 40k? is it still licensed with games workshop? |
Editor in Chief Bill | 10 Feb 2016 6:16 p.m. PST |
Games Workshop owns Epic 40K, does it not? |
Waco Joe | 10 Feb 2016 6:17 p.m. PST |
Yes it is still licensed by GW. If you go to shapeways.com and are diligent in your searching you will probably find some "not" epic sci fi tanks, but they are not cheap from what I have found. |

i could see some companies either closing or switching to this new technology. thanks. |

Just go with other 6mm minis. There's plenty to choose from, and they'll cost a whole lot less as well. For the price of a platoon of GW minis, you can buy a full company, or more of non-GW products. |

it is what i have besides epic. but thank you guys! |

GW is planning a boxed set in a year or two, rumor is mostly Titans though. Onslaught Minis onslaughtmini.com Have many that are close though. |
Winston Smith | 10 Feb 2016 9:28 p.m. PST |
It is not LICENSED by GW. It is owned by GW. |

No touchy the official designs but as suggested plenty of look alikes. Heck, for imperial stuff, you can grab historical figures and paint them in garish colours and they'll serve just fine. I knew a guy who had bright red M113's in his Space Marine armies. |
Legion 4 | 11 Feb 2016 7:30 a.m. PST |
Yes, GW OWNs Epic … but as I and others have said. There are a plethora of 6mm Sci-fi out there now. Both minis and rules. The Best place to get Epic and other 6mm sci-fi is Tac Cmd link It was down yesterday for maint., etc., but very much back in action. I knew a guy who had bright red M113's in his Space Marine armies. Unlike this "individual" and other "kids", all my stuff is in tactical/camo colors. Which goes against GW's most "silly" dogma. All my M113s in the real world were camo'd !!!! The GW "logic" was to paint their toy soldiers in bright shiny colors to attract the kiddies. So like with PG movies you get a larger audience. Not just mom & dad, but the kids too. A good business decision. However with their prices … only the very rich kids can afford it ! <rant mode terminated> Now back OT. I have been collecting Epic since '90. And have pretty much all they have made for Epic since then. Of all 4-5 iterations of the game & models. So I guess I'm allowed to make comments of less than a + nature. However, I highly recommend checking out the other 6mm sci-fi minis and rules out there now … vic, my friend and fellow 6mm sci-fi fan. You asked basically the same question on 2 separate threads. But the answer was the same on both. No matter how much you would like it to be otherwise. I guess ? Yes, vic … there Is No Santa Claus … er .. Gram Ma Wendy … Again Epic is O-w-n-e-d by GW and Not L-I-c-e-n-s-e-d to any one living or dead … Oh BTW, there are some beautifully painted models posted on Tac Cmd. One gent just did a unit of White Scars SMs. link They looked like they belong to Ringling Bros., not a military unit. In bright shiny red and white colors. <cue circus music> However, as I always say, "Do What Works for U … not me … " |

Now all that being said … there are some fan made Epic models out there … However you can't purchase them. I have a few, but the makers are my e-friends and gave/gifted them to me. Like with CinC SEM, the owner, an e-friend of mine sends me those models for me to paint and post pics, here and elsewhere. His last e-mail to me says they are very busy with many new orders. So the system works ! |

Take with salt, but it is rumored that when GW re-does Epic the scale will not be 6mm. Read here: link |

Somewhat off topic, but here's an interesting history of GW's licensing of their IP to third parties: link |

Yes, the rumor is the GW/SG Epic "redo" #5 will be only Titans and 10mm. Again the based on their Larger scale models. A 10mm Titan will be pretty pricey. But however, 10mm will be closer in scale with their 6-8 Epic Infantry. IIRC, the Titans of Epic past, were closer to 1/500th scale. While the ground units were 1/285 – 1/300. The first version of SMs, Orks and Eldar are clearly a bit smaller then the ones to follow. The Eldar actually have 3 different Sizes, it appears. From SM1 to SM2 to the next iteration. Here are some of my Eldar. SM1 metal were bigger than SM1 plastic.
SM1 Plastic –
SM2 in front here is the same size as SM1 Plastic …
E40K Eldar, the formation on the outside next SM1 Eldar …
Scale Creep at it's finest … I guess some of Craft Worlds have different size troops ? |

At risk of sounding bitter and skeptical, I could imagine GW changing the scale of Epic solely to force people who already own tons of Epic stuff to buy all new armies. |
Logain | 12 Feb 2016 10:37 a.m. PST |
Well between the new CAV, Heavy Gear, Dropship Commander, and Planetfall there is going to be some serious competition with established 10mm companies if they go that route. Can't be bad for the consumer. I started buying GW long ago because they made fun games I could afford. I quit buying when it was no longer affordable or fun. If they make something good, I'll probably buy in. Otherwise I will continue to get my fix from the other excellent 6mm companies that are out there. I am interested to see what they can do with their artists, writers, sculptors, and production resources. It could be great, or it could be a flop. |

It doesn't surprise me they may be going for new scale though its somewhat annoying. If there is any substance to the rumors its not really going to be 'Epic', but a new version of Adeptus Titanicus (which I have very fond memories of and could possibly be persuaded to part with cash for – providing the rules are closer to the first rather than the second iteration). Scale is probably academic – and always was rather elastic with the bigger stuff for Epic. And I doubt a '10mm-scale' Titan will sit well with much of the other 10mm sci-fi mecha out there. They might be steering away from 6mm, not because of existing collections, but because the market has quite a crowd of good quality 6mm ranges which clearly take a serious aesthetic lead from 40K – and sometimes doing a better job of it than the original! |

Yes, the rumor is the GW/SG Epic "redo" #5 will be only Titans and 10mm. Just like GW to screw over their old customers. By making this 10mm they make so that anyone who has the old Epic Miniatures (6mm) will not be able to use them with the latest release. |
Legion 4 | 15 Feb 2016 8:13 a.m. PST |
Well … not to defend GW, … But the Titans were more like 1/500th scale than 6mm. So IMO, 10mm will be closer in scale with the 6-8 scale creep that has occurred over the 5+ re-releases since '90. The same can be said about the different versions of aircraft and other vehicles released by both GW and FW for Epic. Not to mention that the FW resin made most of the Epic gun barrels and Infantry too fragile and not gamer friendly. So once again IMO, GW/FW Epic disappoints … |

I always wanted Epic to be 10mm -not that this helps. |
